Welcome to Wednesday and our newest MidWeek Muse video tutorial to make a very special book. I’d had one of the Tim Holtz Grunge Book kits rolling around my studio for weeks and finally hit upon an idea that I wanted to try with it. I also had a pack of Catherine Moore’s lovely Nesting Grounds papers and by the time I was finished I’d added in some cool insects from a collage sheet, various ribbons and trim, kraft envelopes, rubber stamps, Distress Stains, and ended up with a book that I really love.
When you watch the video one of the first things you’ll notice is that the colors in this book are far different than what you usually see me use. Guided by the colors in the Nesting Grounds papers, I found myself choosing warm browns with accents of blue and turquoise. Thematically, the papers feature birds, nests, and trees, among other designs. I focused on the birds, stamping images of them on various surfaces, then added in insects to enhance the outdoors part of the theme. The result is a book that’s tied together with theme and color, blending both in a nicely coordinated fashion.
I created a kit that has the Grunge Book, the Nesting Grounds paper pack, Gathered Twigs Distress Stain, the Insects collage sheet, chipboard covers, and a lot more of the bits you need to create your own version of the book. The Ideaology Metal Corners are not included (it’s a long story!), but we have them, along with other items that are not in the kit, but would make a nice addition if you want them.
