Alcohol Ink continues to be incredibly popular, so whenever I have a chance to experiment with other ways to use it, I jump at them.
What you see me demo today is my take on a technique Celia Buchanan developed that combines Marabu Alcohol Ink and Amsterdam Modeling Paste on Ampersand’s Claybord.
Claybord is a unique surface; super smooth and absorbent, but one that readily accepts the inks and allows them to bloom and behave as they do on most non-porous surfaces. Add in sanding and scratching to alter the Claybord surface, and you have some options to create pretty fabulous pieces!

Great technique! In pottery we would call that sgrafitto, where you scratch through the raw glaze layer to the clay body beneath before the second firing. But now I’m scratching (pun intended!) my head for ideas of what to do with the finished boards. What do you guys do with them?
I thought they might be great book covers….
