Welcome to Wednesday and today’s MidWeek Muse video where I’m using Tim Holtz’s Ideaology Ruler Binding, tags in all colors and sizes, plus other Ideaology bits to create some fun books.
I’ve been wanting to experiment with the Ruler Binding for a while and the time spent playing was incredibly worthwhile. Not only did I create a tag book that I really like, I also drew fish shapes and created an entirely different book using them for the covers and pages, then bound them into a book using the Ruler Binding. I’ve created a downloadable pdf document that includes the fish covers and pages, so if you want to try making one too, you can!
One of the things I discovered is that “more is more” when playing with the Ideaology pieces. The Ruler Binding was my jumping off point and as I went along I began pulling other bits from the collection I’ve been accumulating (some would say hoarding, but I digress) here in my studio. Stencil Marks, Muse Tokens, Collage Keys, Plaquettes, and Faucet Knobs (which make great handles) are all part of the book. I also used some new Rayon Seam Binding (colored with Dylusions & Color Wash), fitted through the tag holes both alone and with other bits tied on, to add splashes of color to the ends of the tags.
Some pages have stamped images right on the tags while others have imagery I stamped and cut out, then attached to the pages. I used Tim’s stamps, Dylusions, and Stampotique Originals designs too. Add in envelopes (from Maya Road, plus a brand new set) that you add color and embellishment to, and you’ve got the makings of one mighty fun book that’s visually captivating.
