Virginia England is back today, with another fun and quirky card guest post.  This time she’s used our The Bird Edgar stamp to create a ‘thinking of you’ version.  His tail feathers are made from real feather fluff, but if you don’t have any on hand, she’s also provided alternate options you can try.

Here begin Virginia’s instructions…

This is a fairly quick and easy card to make. Especially if you have some Deli Papers handy that are already inked up.

Supplies:

Dark Pink Cardstock – 7” x 10” Scored and folded in half to make a 5 x 7 card
Bright Pink Paper – 4 3/4” x 6 3/4”
Purple Paper – 4 3/4” x 6 3/4” Cut in half at a diagonal
Deli Paper – see the Plain Deli Paper here and the Stripey style here.
Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks in Wild Plum, Stream and Sailboat Blue
Dylusions Ink Sprays in Crushed Grape and Vibrant Turquoise
Sharpie Pen – Silver Metallic
Gelly Roll Pens – White and Teal
Assorted Colored Pencils
Pitt Pen
Glitter – Clear or White
StazOn Ink Pad – Black
Joggles Rubber Stamps – Doodle Flower #1 and The Bird Edgar
Fluffy Feather – [I will show you options at the end of the tutorial if you don’t have a feather to use]
Dina Wakley Gel Medium
Glue
Foam Tape
Scor Tape or Double Sided Transfer Tape
Optional Items: Craft Foam Sheet and a Stylist

You’ll want to start off inking up your deli paper. I used Barb’s techniques from her blog video “Deli Paper & Alcohol Inks: An Unlikely Pairing”.  Much easier for you to watch the video than for me to explain it here.  Click here to see the Deli Paper & Alcohol Inks video.

I used Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks in Wild Plum, Stream and Sail Boat Blue.

Once your Deli Paper is dry, using the Black StazOn Ink Pad randomly stamp on the Deli Paper using the Joggle Rubber Stamp Doodle Flower #1. At this point I used Dylusions Ink Sprays in Crushed Grape and Vibrant Turquoise in Water Brushes to add some extra color to the Doodle Flowers. Of course it being water based it just beaded up on the Deli Paper. Which I found rather interesting so I used my heat gun to speed dry it. I liked the end result. Next I outlined the petals using the Sharpie Silver Metallic Pen and drew over the rest of the flower using the Gelli Pens in White and Teal. You may also add some random doodles on the Deli Paper if you want more business going on.

Cut out your Cardstock and Papers.

Using Scor Tape or Double Sided Transfer Tape attach the Purple Triangle Paper over the Pink Paper.

Cover the entire surface with Dina Wakley Gel Medium and place the Deli Paper over it. Smooth out the Deli Paper and set aside to dry thoroughly. Once it is dried, trim the edges to fit the Purple and Pink Papers.

While your piece is drying you can move on to stamping and coloring The Bird Edgar. I stamped out 2 images of The Bird Edgar. I used one to cut out the wing to add to the main image. My preference for coloring is Colored Pencils. But feel free to use your favorite method.

Once you have him colored you can add some dimension to him if you desire. This is totally optional. If you choose to do this you will need a sheet of Craft Foam and a Stylist. Lying Edgar on the Craft Foam face down take your stylist and using a circular motion while pressing down add dimension. This will take several circular passes over the piece. Just keep doing it until you reach the desired effect. Warning: don’t press down so hard that you push the stylist through your piece. The Bird Edgar would be very unhappy with you. And you with yourself no doubt. When you flip him over you’ll probably need to bend his legs and beak forward just a tad.

Now attach the wing from the second image you stamped. Be sure to color it first. And only apply a tiny bit of glue to the front part of the wing. You want it to stand out a bit. Then add glitter to the wing, his tail and a few spots on his head and breast. Now add the Fluff Feather to the back side of him, behind his stamped tail.

Make your Sentiment Tag.

Using the StazOn Black Stamp Pad stamp your sentiment [I used a “Thinking of You” stamp] onto a scrap of Pink Paper. Cut out your sentiment to a size that is appropriate. Next using ScorTape or Double Sided Transfer Tape attach the sentiment to a piece of scrap Dark Pink Cardstock. Cut around it leaving 1/4 inch border.

Using Foam Tape attach your Sentiment Tag to the bottom left corner leaving about 1/4” border. Attach The Bird Edgar using foam tape behind his body and just a tad of glue under his foot to keep it in place. Take a Pitt Pen and scribble a few lines under his feet so he doesn’t look to be floating in the air.

And Wah-La you’re finished!!!

Now if you don’t have any Fluffy Feathers lying around…or any feathers for that matter, you can get creative. I’ve made up a few options here to show you what I mean. The possibilities are endless. Just use your imagination!!!
