Gelli Print Adventures: Tyvek & The New Dylusions Paint Colors
      February 24, 2016

You just never know how an idea may blossom into something unexpected, but fabulous in ways you could not anticipate.  That was the case with the project in today’s video.

My initial plan was to get out the 6 new colors of Dylusions Paint and use them with the Gel Press Plate.  I was excited to try the new colors and figured printing on the Plate would be a fun experiment.  The other idea was to cut Tyvek into shapes and use them as masks – I wanted to play a bit with them.  Tyvek is so thin I knew it would make a great mask, plus it’s sturdy and I could use them over and over without any degradation of the material.  If I’m going to take the time to cut out fancy shapes, I prefer that they be reusable.  With Tyvek they absolutely are.

What I discovered along the way is that Tyvek also is a marvelous surface to pull prints from the Gel Press Plate.  The imagery is as crisp as if you use a smooth paper and with Tyvek, the additional advantage is that it can be cut or sewn or glued or otherwise manipulated to create something else.

Out came all of the supplies and before I knew it I was on an hours long printing adventure.  Tyvek masks?  Yep, I used them.  I also brought out some of our stencils, with certain designs chosen with specific techniques in mind.  You’ll see that in the video.  I hope you’re prepared for lots of inspiration.  Today’s video is loaded with it!

      Supplies For This Video:

      Gel Press Reusable Print Plates

Dylusions Paint.  The 6 new colors are After Midnight, Calypso Teal, Cherry Pie, Dirty Martini, Pomegranate Seed and Tangerine Dream.  Or click here to see the entire range of colors.

Don’t see my former comment so I must have messed up. But I just had to say that the Gelli plate printing is getting more enticing as you demonstrate more ideas with the printing techniques. I love the old Basic Grey paper designs and the results look a lot like that gorgeous cardstock. Love it! Oh sometime will you give us a sneak peek at you? I would love to see who is teaching us! Thanks Barb!

The Gelli Plate looks like a lot of fun to play with, such beautiful prints. I have had one for a while now but haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. Thank you Barb for the inspiration. I really enjoy watching your tutorials.

Hi, Barb. How do the Dylusion paints compare to the Inka Gold line?

        Hi Michelle,

I think you mean the Maya Gold line of paint. Inka Gold is the paste like product that is not a paint.

Maya Gold is highly metallic where the Dylusions Paint is not. Maya Gold dries to a shiny finish and Dylusions to a very matte surface that will continue to accept sprays, etc. Sprays on top of Maya Gold will tend to bead up.

You’re right, I meant Maya Gold. Thanks for the reply.
