Creating A Giant Tag Book

Welcome to Wednesday and today’s MidWeek Muse where I’m creating a “tag book” – a book with covers made from tags and that uses them as the pages.

One of the things I enjoy the most about creating any book is that it can take whatever form I imagine. I’m not bound by any rules or preconceived notions about what the book should be. I can experiment and play, using what I have on hand to see what I can come up with.

In the video you’ll see me use Ranger’s giant #12 tags to form the front and back covers along with the spine. Because this particular tag is so big, measuring 5 1/8″ x 10 1/2″, it allows me to make a really nice sized book. Further on in the video I’ll show you how I made pages and what from (more tags and watercolor paper!) as well as how I embellish them and then how to sew the signatures into the accordion pleated spine.

You’ll see that there are no limits to what the pages can be or how they should look. Mine are lots of sizes, folded in half or not, in all colors, with no real theme. All of those variables combine to make a book that’s a little wonky, with edges that don’t align and pages that are not all the same size, which I love! If you prefer something a bit more orderly you can accomplish that by using the same size tags and/or papers and by folding them the same way.
