Give that it’s pushing mid-October I decided it was time to throw “Halloween” out there as this week’s prompt. Interpret it how you will – this one is about as wide open as it gets. I decided to pull out some of the new collage sheets and use them as a starting point…
I often turn to them when I need inspiration. I don’t always use imagery from the sheets, but they help get the ideas moving. These are the Halloween themed ones that debuted a couple of weeks ago. Click here to see them. I did end up using images from the ones named Monster Mash 1 and Monster Mash 2.
With that decided it was time to add some color to the page background. This is one of Finnabair’s Art Alchemy Sparks Paint named Fairy Wings. A couple of dabs on my surface and a couple of spritzes of water…
And then I spread it out using a palette knife.
I pressed the paper into the paint puddles and lifted straight up.
Repeat using the color named Iris Potion…
And end up with this. Maybe a little too busy?
Add a layer of white gesso and that calms it down enough that the figures don’t get lost in the background.
Then things got a little dimensional when I decided to use one of the Art Glitter Elements named Sediment. Elements are meant to resemble earth textures. The addition of a bit of glitter makes them even better. The process here was to use our Bubble Blast Stencil and apply Gel Medium through the openings. It’s heavy enough to securely adhere the larger pieces in the Elements and between the two, there’s a ton of cool texture.
Yup, I like the way this looks, but the figures look a little lonely…
So I cut some triangle shapes from black cardstock. This was the first trial layout.
Though this is the one I settled on.
Rather than leave them plain, I used Gelly Roll Pens to add some doodles. The figures are a bit serious looking and I wanted to add a touch of whimsy.
And here’s the finished page. It’s Halloween without the usual combination of black and orange.
