Some weeks I wonder and ponder what moves me and might be a good prompt. Some weeks I know the what, but not the “what’ll it look like”. This week they both fell into place with no effort. All of my endeavors should be so simple!
The Week 27 prompt is: 1. Yes, as in the number; however, you can interpret is as a number the way I did or you can choose one element. One color. One shape. One of anything you wish.
This was leftover, deliberately, from something I was filming last week. I knew my week was coming and so decided to get a little ahead and at least get the background done. That was as much advance work as I accomplished… The colors are from Finnabair’s Art Alchemy Impasto Paint. Yummy, eh?
I brought home one each of the new Giftsland Lokta Paper Assortments. Pictured here is the one named Copper and it’s lovely when combined with the color Butterfly Spells in the Art Alchemy Sparks Paint.
I decided to use our Bubble Blast Stencil and that paint to add color and pattern to the background.
The color is a little difficult to see, but if you look at the top left, the light is reflecting so that you can actually “see” the color. (it’s pretty, really pretty)
I printed a huge number one so I would have a template. Because the paper is dark, I needed something other than a pencil to trace it…
So I used a White Gelly Roll Pen. Worked like magic!
Well, I like the number, but the background needs… something. It’s too quite and pretty boring.
I loosely brayered Pebeo’s Iridescent Copper Studio Acrylic Paint on a 8″ x 10″ Gel Press Plate and then printed a couple of areas. By loosely brayered, I mean I squirted a couple of lines of paint on the plate, brayered it around a little, and that was all. You can see the texture and that it’s thick in some places. That’s what I was going for since it makes for great texture.
Repeat the process with Raven Black Sparks Paint for more color and texture.
That’s our Punchinella Trio #1 Stencil. I used some of Dina Wakley’s White Gesso through it to add another layer, this time of highly contrasting white dots.
A little Daler Rowney Pearlescent Black FW Ink, thinned a tiny bit with water, then spattered on the background. Then I used a .7 Black Pebeo decoMarker to make circles around the white dots.
Now the number doesn’t look so lost, sitting on a barely there background.
I lettered the word one on with a pencil, then used markers to begin to outline and fill them in.
The lettering is done and I wish I’d left some space between the word and the number. I can live with it even if it’s not exactly what I wanted. I added scattered horizontal lines, then didn’t like them much once I did.
If you look closely you can se that those black horizontal lines are covered with white dots, as are the perimeter of some of the original circles made with the Bubble Blast Stencil. Outlining the word one with a .7 White Pebeo decoMarker made a huge difference. I’m liking this now.
The black outline of the number helped bring it forward, kind of on an even footing with the word, which I think was a good choice. I’m satisfied and can call this one done.

Turned out great. I love your doodling with the white pen made all the difference. Thanks, Barb!
Cute! Love the color combo!
The Lokta papers are beautiful! And that gorgeous paint! The outlining tied up those loose ends nicely.
Love this Barb! Especially your lettered “one.”
It’s lovely! Love the lettering on the word ONE!
Love it! What an amazing progression. I’m very happy with the Lakota papers I ordered…
