This week’s prompt was dictated by the fact that I’m not at home and do not have access to all of my supplies.  Some traveled with me, but I knew when I left Rhode Island a couple of weeks ago that I wasn’t going to bring stuff for this week’s page.  I figured I’d figure it out when I got to my destination, knowing full well that my friend Sue is well stocked and always happy to share.

I like what I like and don’t often deviate from the colors and supplies I enjoy working with, so it was a pretty big leap of faith that I’d get much of anything done.  Which is not to say that Sue doesn’t have a well filled studio (and shelves, and closet, and drawers…) because she does.  That’s actually more commentary on what a creature of habit I am.  And that I like what I like.  There’s my only child tendencies showing.  Again.  I digress.

Your prompt this week is to borrow supplies from a friend and use them to create your page.  That can be papers like what I used of Sue’s, or perhaps a partly begun page.  If you’re stumped, have your friend choose your colors.  It doesn’t matter if you need more than a week to get stuff from her to you or vice versa.  The only deadlines we have are the ones you impose upon yourself, so relax and wait for the mail to arrive.  :+)

If getting stuff from someone else isn’t feasible, you have a couple of options: poke around through your stash and find some things you bought that you loved at the time but now wonder what it the heck you were thinking.  Or pull out a bunch of disparate supplies and lay them out where you can easily reach them.  Close your eyes and pick.  No peeking either and you have to use what you pick the first time!

Since I’m only willing to step so far outside of my comfort zone (that’s why it’s called a comfort zone after all!) I borrowed a 1″ hole punch and a stack of papers Sue has made.  Circles are good, I can work with them.

I began by randomly punching circles and laid them on the page.  No idea yet what I’m doing, but this is a start.

One of the things that did travel with me are Zig Watercolors.  I washed on a gradation and sprinkled a little salt on the wet paper to create burst effects.

Table salt, with its small granules, makes smaller, more subtle bursts.  It’s what I had available, so I used it.

I laid the circles out and liked them, but still had no idea what I was doing.  I pulled out more of Sue’s papers and sifted through her awesome assortment of painted and printed deli paper.  I will admit to fumbling around, trying several things over the course of a couple of hours, and still having no idea what I wanted to do.  It didn’t help that I was working on several other things at the same time, which has a tendency to make things harder than they need to be.

Knowing full well I needed to get something finished, I cut random (and very uneven) circles from the deli paper, layering the ones I’d punched on top.  Kind of like a penny rug.

Once they were glued in place I used a black .7 tipped Pebeo decoMarker and scribbled circles around the punched circles.

And since circles are my friend, and a safe fall back place, I decided to doodle a path of circles across the page.  I used a Superfine Black PITT Pen.

Doodled circles are finished, but the page is not.  Something is missing.  When all else fails, go for the sparkly stuff.   Words to live (and journal) by…

So I added a little Gala Glitz to the center of each of the punched circles.  Better, and now I’m willing to call it done.
