Made in France, Carabelle Stencils are available as both a mask and stencil. With a stencil, the openings form the design and are what will receive color when you apply it through them. A mask produces the opposite effect, leaving the design white (or the color of the surface it's being used on) while the background, also known as the negative space, will take on the color.

Each option has a multitude of options and they're perfect for use on a Gel Press Plate, to create background and design areas on your art journal pages, to make unique and interesting cards, and in your mixed media projects.

There's an almost unlimited wealth of products to use with masks and stencils. Sprays of all kinds, including glimmery ones, make a bold impact. Gels, grounds, mediums, and textural pastes can be applied through the openings with a palette knife. Use an Ink Blending Tool or cosmetic sponge to apply paint, remembering that too much is not a good thing as it will result in messy, indistinct shapes where the excess color bleeds under the edges of the openings.

For difficult surfaces where the stencil might easily move, like a wall or other surface where gravity is working against you, use a temporary spray adhesive to hold the Mylar in place. Apply the paint or spray as usual, then peel the stencil off and move it to the next spot. A spray adhesive is also helpful when working on fabric which tends to not be as perfectly flat and smooth as paper or cardstock.
