Also known as Mawata Silk Squares, Silk Hankies are individual silk cocoons that are opened and spread on a square frame, then made into a bundle which contains a great many cocoons. The bundles are hand dyed in a fabulous array of solid and multi-color colorways. We separate the Hankie bundles into smaller groups of approximately 4 layers/cocoons as you see pictured here. Each layer is made of gossamer thin strands of silk. Gently separate by hand into individual hankies measuring approximately 8" square. Great for wet felting, spinning, silk paper, surface design, or adding to mixed media or textile projects.
Approximately 4 layers/cocoons. As a natural product, they will vary in size, thickness and transparency. Like all hand dyed items, there will always be variations in dye lots. The piece you receive may not exactly resemble the sample in the photo, but will be close. Some degree of "fluffiness" in the layers after they're separated is normal!
