2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re on to week 4 already and it seems as though the last few have slipped by incredibly quickly.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re new to the AJA (Art Journal Adventure), welcome!\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve been working along with me, welcome back!\u00a0 If you haven&#8217;t begun but would like to&#8230; just do it!\u00a0 Start whenever you can and don&#8217;t worry about the previous weeks.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0time I decided to get a head start on Valentine&#8217;s Day by incorporating hearts into the page spread, using what I thought would be just one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/joggles-collage-sheets\/joggles-collage-sheets-watercolor-hearts-ii-minis-jg401087.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Watercolor Hearts Collage Sheets<\/a>.\u00a0 Eventually I used all three, but\u00a0I didn&#8217;t want to be all Valentine&#8217;s Day though so went with cool colors for the background.\u00a0 Once again I&#8217;m working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-paint-by-dyan-reaveley\" target=\"_blank\">Dylusions Paint <\/a>and began this spread by applying a coat of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-paint-by-dyan-reaveley\/dylusions-paint-white-linen.htm\" target=\"_blank\">White Linen <\/a>to the entire background using a baby wipe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-919\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-919\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-1\" width=\"700\" height=\"447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wanted the colors of the background to be soft and I knew the white would do that to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-paint-by-dyan-reaveley\/dylusions-paint-cut-grass.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Cut Grass <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-paint-by-dyan-reaveley\/dylusions-paint-vibrant-turquoise.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Vibrant Turquoise<\/a>.\u00a0 The next three photos show the progression as I applied the colors&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-920\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-920\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-2.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A light, scribbly coat of Cut Grass, then&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-921\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-921\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-3.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-3\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Vibrant Turquoise on the left side of the spread.\u00a0 See that tiny little puddle of color in the upper left corner of the photo?\u00a0 It&#8217;s where I softened the Vibrant Turquoise before I even applied it to the spread.\u00a0 I took some of the white on the baby wipe, then dipped it into a\u00a0tiny bit\u00a0of the Vibrant Turquoise and smooshed it around on my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/misc-stamp-mixed-media-supplies\/inkssentials-nonstick-craft-sheet.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Nonstick Craft Sheet <\/a>to blend the color before I applied it to the spread.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-4.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-922\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-922\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-4.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-4\" width=\"700\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Better&#8230; both sides are done, but I felt like there wasn&#8217;t enough white space so I added some&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-5.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-923\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-923\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-5.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-5\" width=\"700\" height=\"454\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By spreading more of the White Linen on the pages using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-and-paint\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-palette-knife.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Palette Knife<\/a>\u00a0to randomly smoosh the color around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-6.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-925\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-925\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-6.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-6\" width=\"700\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ah, I like this better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-7.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-924\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-924\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-7.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-7\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Time to add some spatters using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/daler-rowney-fw-pearlescent-inks\/daler-rowney-fw-pearlescent-ink-waterfall-green.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Waterfall Green Daler-Rowney FW Pearlescent Ink<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/brushes-brushes-brushes\/princeton-watercolor-brush-4-fan-4350.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Princeton Fan Brush<\/a>.\u00a0 Using the eyedropper that comes in the cap of the ink, squirt some of it on your surface (shake it well first to distribute all of the pigment!), then pick up some water in the fan brush and thin the ink a bit.\u00a0 Load the brush by dipping the bristles in the puddle of color, then tap it against the finger on the hand you&#8217;re not holding it with to make spatters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-928\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-928\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-8.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-8\" width=\"700\" height=\"444\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All splattered and waiting for them to dry, but I think the background needs a bit more movement and color, so&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-10.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-927\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-927\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-10.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-10\" width=\"700\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Out comes our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/stencils\/joggles-stencils-and-masks\/joggles-stencils-punchinella-trio-1-10-33771.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Punchinella Trio I Stencil<\/a> and I used the hexagon section, applying Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions Paint with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/misc-stamp-mixed-media-supplies\/ranger-mini-ink-blending-tool-40965.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Mini Ink Blending Tool<\/a>.\u00a0 See how much darker the color is right out of the jar?\u00a0 That&#8217;s why I decided to soften it with white before applying the color over the background several steps ago.\u00a0 Having done that gives me the freedom to use the color without altering it at all and the contrast is perfect.\u00a0 Some black paint on the end of a paint brush makes the black dots and some black and white circles made with varying sizes of prescription bottles finishes things.\u00a0 On to the hearts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-9.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-926\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-926\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-9.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-9\" width=\"700\" height=\"447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/joggles-collage-sheets\/joggles-collage-sheets-watercolor-hearts-ii-minis-jg401087.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Watercolor Hearts II Minis<\/a> and was all I thought I as going\u00a0to work with.\u00a0 Eventually I brought in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/joggles-collage-sheets\/joggles-collage-sheets-watercolor-hearts-i-large-jg401085.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Watercolor Hearts I<\/a> which features much larger sized hearts and the sheet named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/joggles-collage-sheets\/joggles-collage-sheets-watercolor-printed-hearts-jg401089.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Watercolor Printed Hearts <\/a>which have a different look and feel.\u00a0 Once I was finished cutting them out and arranging them on the background the spread looked like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-11.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-930\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-930\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-11.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-11\" width=\"700\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And it was time to glue the hearts in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-12.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-929\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-929\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-12.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-12\" width=\"700\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/glues-and-adhesives\/scotch-quick-dry-adhesive-2-oz.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive <\/a>for applications like this since the glue is dry almost as soon as you put the piece in place.\u00a0 You have maybe 10 seconds to make adjustments, then it&#8217;s in place and you can move on.\u00a0 For a liquid glue of this viscosity, our 18 gauge Fineline Applicator is the best choice.\u00a0 For this 2 ounce bottle of glue you need a 20\/410 style.\u00a0 If you want one of them to put on your bottle of glue, click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/joggles-fineline-applicators\/joggles-fineline-applicator-20-410-18-gauge-56869.htm\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> to go to the exact one you need.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-13.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-933\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-13.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-13\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hearts looked like they were floating on the background, so I used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/drawing-pencils\/pro-art-charcoal-pencils-3062.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Charcoal Pencil <\/a>to apply a dark line around each one &#8211; see the red\/orange printed one in roughly the center, to the right of the charcoal pencil?\u00a0 Once you draw around them, smudge the dark, black line with your finger to soften it.\u00a0 The ones to the left have had that done.\u00a0 See the difference?\u00a0 That color around each grounds them, settling them on the surface rather than having them look like they&#8217;re floating in space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-15.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-932\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-932\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-15.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-15\" width=\"700\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wanted the hearts to look like they&#8217;re dangling from the top of the page, so painted hangers to each.\u00a0 I thought they looked too stark and boring, so added white dots with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/sharpie-water-based-paint-marker\" target=\"_blank\">Sharpie Paint Pen<\/a>.\u00a0 You can see just a hint of that on the ones all the way to the left.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-16.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-935\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-935\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-16.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-16\" width=\"700\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yup, that looks much better.\u00a0 From there I used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\" target=\"_blank\">PITT pen <\/a>to create the border at the top of the page and to write the quote around the other three sides.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-17.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-934\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fikJaNa5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-934\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/2016-aja-week4-17.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week4-17\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\"
