When I set out to create the pieces for today’s video, I did so with a an idea of how I wanted to proceed and what I thought the results might look like.\u00a0\u00a0I played for a while and discovered that my best laid plans were not producing\u00a0what I expected.<\/p>\n
Originally I thought I was going to work with my preloaded Detail Water Brushes; the ones that are filled with various inks and sprays, and with Twinkling H2Os to add color and sparkle.\u00a0 I\u00a0played with them for a bit and while I liked the results, the look was not what I imagined.\u00a0 Not bad in any way, and you can get great results with them both or with other paints, but not what I was seeing in my mind’s eye.\u00a0 I put everything away (I’m easily distracted) and brought out my Derwent Coloursoft pencils and began to lightly color some of the elements.\u00a0 Added a bit of shading.\u00a0 Blended colors for a softer look.\u00a0 Tested various combinations to approximate Caucasian flesh.\u00a0 Played and played, and then played some more.<\/p>\n
As I was\u00a0doing all of that\u00a0I began to really enjoy the process\u00a0 –\u00a0 what is currently being termed “adult coloring” – it’s a lot of fun!\u00a0\u00a0I also realized that it’s easy to take basic coloring and enhance the look with some subtle shading and blending.<\/p>\n
Once you’ve finished coloring and embellishing the vignettes, it comes time to decide what to do with them.\u00a0 The obvious choice is to incorporate them into cards and you’ll see me do that toward the end of the video.\u00a0 We have smaller sized cards measuring about 4.25″ x 5.5″, which are perfect for the size of the\u00a0elements on the Paintables papers.\u00a0 Layer the vignette with some scrapbook papers and adhere to the card front.\u00a0 Add a sentiment to the inside and that quickly you have a card to gift to someone special.<\/p>\n
You’ll also see that the vignettes work well on journal pages.\u00a0 I used mine in one of the 5″ x 5″ Global Art Materials journals and love the look.<\/p>\n
