It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/artfuldigits.blogspot.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bonnie<\/a> here today with the prompt for <strong>Week 24<\/strong> of the <strong>2017 Art Journal Adventure<\/strong>. I thought I would have a little fun with the idea of June brides&#8230;not that I wanted to feature a bride although you certainly could. I wanted to respond to the tradition of &#8220;<strong>Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, and Something blue<\/strong>&#8221; which is supposed to bring the wedding couple luck. For this week&#8217;s prompt, \u00a0I am applying this saying to my art journal page. Something old could be something you have had in your stash for a while, vintage ephemera, or the age of the person in the image. Something new could be something new to your collection of products and tools, a new technique that you have been wanting to try, or someone getting something new in the image. It might even be that your wording refers to something old or new. Something borrowed&#8230;well, I borrowed an idea and I also borrowed something I had seen in someone else&#8217;s project. And something blue&#8230;you get the drift \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9877.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-ATljeDtI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6117\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9877.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I always have a stack of pre-made backgrounds and mop-up scraps on my desk so I grabbed two of these with a fair bit of <strong>blue<\/strong> in them to start my background. The page on the left was created with some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-sprays\" target=\"_blank\">Lindy&#8217;s Stamp Gang Starburst Sprays<\/a> on a page I had used as a mask for another project. The page on the right was created with my gel plate and Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paints as well as a bit of stencilling and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-foam-stamps\/joggles-foam-stamp-teardrops-in-the-round-57002.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joggles Teardrops in the Round Foam Stamp<\/a>. I love that stamp for removing colour from the plate before I print. This is the page I cut down to 7 x 10 inches for my background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9879.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-ATljeDtI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6118\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9879.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"503\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was still quite a bit of green showing in the background so to tone that down and emphasize the blue, \u00a0Manganese Archival Ink was used to stamp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/carabelle-studio-art-stamps\/carabelle-studio-art-stamp-dots-and-text-collage-sa50016.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Carabelle Studio Dots and Text Collage Art Stamp<\/a>\u00a0which is one of the <strong>new<\/strong> (to me) things I added to the page. I stamped it without a block because I wanted it to be an imperfect image and actually only used parts of it in places.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9882.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-ATljeDtI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6120\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9882.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"474\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I still wanted to cut down on some of the green showing in the background so I tore a strip off of the over sprayed paper I had used for a mask and adhered it along the bottom edge. A fine black Pitt Pen was used to outline next to this torn strip. Then came one of the two<strong> borrowed<\/strong> ideas I used. Quite some time ago, Virginia England had created a post with some cards she had created. One of them had the cutest border she had drawn so I made note of it in my index cards. The border that you see on my page is the one I &#8220;borrowed&#8221; from her. Thanks, Virginia&#8230;it&#8217;s so cute!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9883.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-ATljeDtI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6122\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9883.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"526\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second <strong>new<\/strong> product that I decided to use was this Mini Designer Template from Kaisercraft called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/kaisercraft-goodies\/kaisercraft-designer-templates\/kaisercraft-mini-designer-template-dots-and-dashes.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dots and Dashes<\/a>. I got it with my last order but hadn&#8217;t used it yet&#8230;love it! I applied Jet Black Archival Ink through the openings using a Mini Ink Blending Tool. It will get a lot of use because I love how crisp the design is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9885.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-ATljeDtI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6123\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9885.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now we come to the <strong>&#8220;old&#8221;<\/strong> element as well as the second <strong>borrowed<\/strong> idea. I was gifted with a couple of 1953 Woman&#8217;s Day magazines and they are fabulous. The ads alone make me smile. This particular woman with the coffee cup was advertising 100% pure instant coffee. I love her! So she is the old or vintage element on my page. The sassy wording combined with the image of the smiling 50&#8217;s woman reminded me very much of <a href=\"https:\/\/annetaintor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anne Taintor<\/a> art where she combines these lovely smiling vintage women\u00a0with some very snarky and hilarious sayings. They never fail to make me laugh so that became\u00a0my second borrowed idea. Both the image and the wording were matted with black and popped up on foam tape.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9888.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-ATljeDtI\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6125\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/DSCN9888.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And that completed my <strong>Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue<\/strong> page. I had an absolute blast following this &#8220;recipe&#8221; and getting creative with how I interpreted it. The finished page, as well as the entire process, made me smile and, for me, that&#8217;s what art journalling is all about. I can&#8217;t wait to see what you do.
