2017 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I tend to be an artistic minimalist who also likes complex, multi-layered work.\u00a0 A bit of a conundrum is my muse.\u00a0 Some of the time it&#8217;s like living with multiple people in my head.\u00a0 I admire busy pages that get it right and balance all of the elements so that a piece doesn&#8217;t make you feel overwhelmed with too much &#8220;stuff&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 Dyan Reaveley, Teesha Moore, and the artists who create in similar styles make some awesome eye candy.\u00a0 Many of the talented folks who are participating in the AJA also fall into that group.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the time my muse sticks out her tongue and refuses to come out to play.\u00a0 So, like many of you, I browse Pinterest to see what&#8217;s being made and to find inspiration.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Today&#8217;s page was inspired by one I found while poking around various boards.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know who the artist is.\u00a0 I did a little digging in what I thought was the correct blog but couldn&#8217;t find the piece, so will leave it as unknown.<\/p>\n<p>What captured me the most was the color gradations and movement of the hues along the object.\u00a0 My eye is really attracted to that look and is one of the reasons you see images in our newsletters that, for example, depict a bunch of markers and the colors gradate from green to yellow to orange, then red, magenta to purple, and perhaps end in blue.\u00a0 Or some variation of that.\u00a0 Something like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-0.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/zig-clean-color-real-brush-markers\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6066 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-0.jpg\" width=\"546\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/zig-clean-color-real-brush-markers\" target=\"_blank\">Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers<\/a> that debuted on the site 10 days ago.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a complete sucker for this look which is why I take the time to arrange the markers in color order.\u00a0 That&#8217;s my art confession for the week.\u00a0 :+)<\/p>\n<p>So with that in mind, the prompt for Week 23 is to create color gradations.\u00a0 Yours can be monochromatic, say moving from white or the palest of pink all the way to deep red.\u00a0 Or it can span colors like what you see in the pens and on my Week 23 page.\u00a0 No coincidence, I actually used the Clean Color Markers when coloring the elements.\u00a0 They&#8217;re pretty fabulous.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6069\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first step was to pencil in the overall arcing shape, then add the rectangles with rounded corners within the confines of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6070\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Outlined with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\" target=\"_blank\">Black PITT Superfine Pen<\/a> and then all of the pencil marks were erased.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6071\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Adding colors with the Clean Color Markers and using\u00a0water in one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/waterbrushes\/tim-holtz-water-brush-by-ranger-fine-detail-nib-tip33080.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Holtz&#8217;s Detail Water Brush<\/a> to blend them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-4.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6075\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The order of colors is not set in stone.\u00a0 I could have transitioned from these purples tinted with magenta to blue purples and eventually to blue and then ended with green.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-5.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6076\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Instead, I moved to pinks, peaches, and&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-6.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6074\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;ultimately ended with red.\u00a0 Your options?\u00a0 Whatever you want.\u00a0 Use colors you love.\u00a0 Use ones you don&#8217;t often and challenge yourself.\u00a0 Most of all, have fun.\u00a0 With the path finished I was mystified what to do next.\u00a0 Being a minimalist, I decided that less really was more and if I kept the background simple there was far less chance\u00a0of me doing something I&#8217;d regret.\u00a0 (been there, done that.\u00a0 wallowed in the regret)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-7.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6073\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"901\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Circles made with dashes.\u00a0 I sketched them first in pencil, the added the dashed lines with the same black Superfine PITT Pen.\u00a0 Simple, but they satisfy my desire to add something to the background.\u00a0 Almost done&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-8.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6072\" to fill in the background circles.\u00a0 I added some, very lightly, to the path too.\u00a0 Because what&#8217;s not to like about glitter on a path?\u00a0 Imagine how much better the Yellow Brick Road would have been with glitter.\u00a0 Now that&#8217;s a fabulous road.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/2017-aja-week-23-10.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-EUhS0a5b\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6077\"
