I got to don my “Mad Scientist” robes for today’s video.\u00a0 Playing, testing, experimenting and exploring those “what if” scenarios is always an exercise in fun.\u00a0 Some of the time the results are not what I’d hoped for or expected.\u00a0\u00a0Others I see things I never anticipated.\u00a0 Then there are times when magic happens and that’s what I want to share today.<\/p>\n
If oil and water don’t mix, we know that water based paints are not gonna mix with a solvent based one, right?\u00a0 Well, they don’t mix per se, but they do react… and the results are nothing short of amazing.<\/p>\n
Like you, I’ve seen videos where folks drop alcohol ink on wet acrylic paint and watch the bursts and blooming of the ink.\u00a0 So I wondered what would happen if I used metallic paint and how could I get around paper buckling which interferes with the way the ink behaves.\u00a0 The answer to those two ponderings is part of what you’ll see today: metallic paint makes magic and if you use Yupo as the substrate, the buckling is completely negated.<\/p>\n
The other discovery, made completely by accident, is what happens to the Alcohol Inks if you spritz water on top of them.\u00a0 It wasn’t until after I finished filming that segment of the video that I realized what happened and what a big deal it is.\u00a0 I suspect it’s something I’ll explore further, as and when I can squeeze it in.<\/p>\n
