2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 49"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are a lot of ways to add paint to a page.\u00a0 A lot.\u00a0 I often reach for baby wipes, scrape paint on with a palette knife, or use my fingers.\u00a0 For today, I decided to step outside of those usual application methods and use a brayer.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re anything like me, a brayer is usually reserved for work on a Gel Press Plate so I figured this would be a good way to change things and venture off on a new path.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4837\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-1\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I chose two colors of paint, got out my trusty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/miscellaneous-supplies\/speedball-4-inch-rubber-brayer-soft.htm\" target=\"_blank\">brayer<\/a>, and went at it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-2.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"472\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since my workbench is covered with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/misc-stamp-mixed-media-supplies\/inkssentials-nonstick-craft-sheet-by-the-foot.htm\" target=\"_blank\">NonStick Craft Sheet <\/a>(the one we sell by the foot) it&#8217;s not necessary to drag out a palette pad.\u00a0 I just work directly on my bench, then wipe up the leftover paint when I&#8217;m finished.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4839\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-3.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-3\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I actually put out way too much paint, as evidenced by the gloppy nature of what you&#8217;re seeing on the brayer.\u00a0 I rolled it out a little further to spread the paint out a bit more, reducing the glop-factor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-4.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4840\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-4.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-4\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then I rolled it on the page.\u00a0 I like the ombre look that two colors creates.\u00a0 And depending on how I apply the next brayerful of paint, I can either create a striped pattern of orange\/pink\/orange\/pink or pink\/orange\/pink.\u00a0 I went for the later&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-5.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4842\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-5.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-5\" width=\"700\" height=\"526\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I turned the journal so I could still work right handed and create that pink\/orange\/pink pattern.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-6.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-6.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-6\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And there ya go.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-7.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-7\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Add some big black dots using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/misc-stamp-mixed-media-supplies\/ranger-inkssentials-mini-ink-blending-tool-40965.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Mini Ink Blending Tool<\/a>.\u00a0 Nice contrast and of course they&#8217;re round so I like them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-8.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-8.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-8\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And add some white scribbles around the dots.\u00a0 I like this too.\u00a0 Then I was kind of stumped about where to go next.\u00a0 They kind of look like flower centers, so I could add some petals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-9.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4845\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-9.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-9\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ok, petals added.\u00a0 Maybe embellish them a bit&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-10.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4846\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-10.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-10\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Better.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s a lot of open space there, just begging for something to fill it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-11.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4847\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-11.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-11\" width=\"700\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scribbles work, as does a dashed border.\u00a0 Though there&#8217;s still a fair amount of open space and I was undecided about what to do next, so I left it until this morning and took another look.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-12.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-s3bB9Zdg\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4851\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2016-aka-week-49-12.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aka-week-49-12\" width=\"700\" height=\"665\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And decided to fill in the open space around the petals with black dots in groups and some single ones.\u00a0 And to add a scribbly circle around the single ones.\u00a0 If you loo closely, you&#8217;ll see I added teeny, tiny
