Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 46"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s prompt: Less is more.<\/p>\n<p>My journal pages tend to have completely covered backgrounds, or at most, a bit of it peeping through.\u00a0 It has not been lost on me that there are a multitude of beautiful pages where this is not the case and with that in mind I decided it was time for a change.\u00a0 Thus, less is more.<\/p>\n<p>I decided if I was gonna go for it, I really needed to <em>go for it<\/em>, which meant I needed mostly uncovered background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4644\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-1\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pages in the Dylusions Square Kraft Journal are manila colored, so I knew I could scrape on gesso and it would be visible.\u00a0 I grabbed a jar of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-white-gesso-4oz-jar.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dina Wakley&#8217;s White Gesso<\/a> and her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-palette-knife.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Palette Knife<\/a> and did just that, applying it quickly and randomly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4645\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-2.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I like what I had but decided I needed something for contrast and since I was also of the mindset to limit the colors I used, I went for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-black-gesso-4oz-jar.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dina&#8217;s Black Gesso<\/a>, though I added quite a bit less.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4646\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-3.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-3\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before the Black Gesso dried I grabbed a brush, dipped it into some water, and used it to dilute some of the gesso and move it around.\u00a0 Mostly I was trying to provide some movement so the viewer&#8217;s eye wasn&#8217;t drawn to the middle where the white gesso was concentrated.\u00a0 Once I did this I realized that the little section in the top left looked odd without any of the diluted gesso.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-3-a.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4648\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-3-a.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-3-a\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I smooshed a little there too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-4.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-4.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-4\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I liked what I had, but felt as though the page needed something graphic that would also pull the sections together.\u00a0 Enter a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/more-pens-and-markers\/fude-ball-1-5-mm-pen-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Fude Ball Black Pen<\/a>\u00a0and I scribbled enough so that there was a connection between all of the sections.\u00a0 The cool part about this pen is that it writes over just about anything.\u00a0 I had no difficulty writing over the gesso, none at all.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-5.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4642\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-5.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-5\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By this point I&#8217;d chosen the character from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/Anthropomorphic\" target=\"_blank\">Anthropomorphic 2 Collage Sheet<\/a>, the sitting one.\u00a0 Since he&#8217;s sitting he needed somewhere to perch, otherwise he&#8217;d look like he was just floating.\u00a0 With that in mind I scribbled an area to suggest a horizontal place to park him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-6.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-spk8k8NJ\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4643\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/2016-aja-week-46-6.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-46-6\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once I glued the image to the page I used the Fude Ball pen and added the suggestion of ground under his feet and the page was done.\u00a0 Though this is not my usual style, I really like how this turned out and suspect I&#8217;ll try this again.\u00a0 Another bonus?\u00a0 This type of page takes far less time to complete.\u00a0 I love detailed pages with lots of layers, but there&#8217;s definitely merit to this
