It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/artfuldigits.blogspot.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bonnie<\/a> here today subbing for Barb this week. \u00a0She has a bajillion things on her plate right now and I jumped at the chance to play in her place.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know about you but sometimes I move away from a technique I really like just to change things up but then forget to return to it. I was thinking about that the other day and realized that I hadn&#8217;t done any <strong>Resist<\/strong> work in a long time and while I&#8217;ve often used Distress inks I don&#8217;t know that I had ever done it using spray inks. Aha! I felt an experiment calling me \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8538.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8538.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8538\" width=\"700\" height=\"590\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I started by layering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/stencils\/joggles-6-inch-x-9-inch-stencils-and-masks\/joggles-margaret-applin-designs-6-inch-x-9-inch-stencil-global-1-33807.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joggles\/ Margaret Applin Designs Global #1<\/a> stencil over each side of my ungessoed journal page and stamping direct to paper through the openings with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/ink-pads\/other-ink-pad-fun\/versamark-watermark-clear-ink-pad.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Versamark Ink<\/a>. I chose this stencil because I wanted fairly large openings since I wasn&#8217;t using an applicator tool. Then I sprinkled the wet Versamark Ink with clear embossing powder and set it with my heat tool. I was happy that the stamping\/embossing was imperfect since that&#8217;s the look I was going for.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8540.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8540.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8540\" width=\"700\" height=\"514\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I spritzed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-sprays\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-spray-delphinium-turquoise.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Lindy&#8217;s Stamp Gang Delphinium Turquoise Starburst Spray<\/a> mostly in the unembossed center panel and then used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-sprays\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-spray-french-lilac-violet.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Lindy&#8217;s French Lilac Violet Starburst Spray <\/a>on the sides. I did go back and lightly spray the Turquoise on the sides and the Purple in the center to blend the colours a bit. Then I took a paper towel and wiped the spray off the embossed areas. I didn&#8217;t use a baby wipe because that would have removed all of the spray from the shiny bits. I liked the texture of the speckled parts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8541.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8541.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8541\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wanted to connect the two sides with the same stencilling but didn&#8217;t want it to be solid so I hit random areas with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/ink-pads\/archival-ink-pads\/archival-ink-pad-forget-me-not.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Forget-Me-Not Archival Ink<\/a> and then deepened parts with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/ink-pads\/archival-ink-pads\/archival-ink-pad-deep-purple.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Purple Archival Ink<\/a>. Now the two sides were connected. I used the same \u00a0Deep Purple Archival Ink to add a little texture using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/kaisercraft-clear-and-texture-stamps\/kaisercraft-texture-stamp-checker-plate-cs833.htm\" target=\"_blank\">KaiserCraft Texture Stamp &#8211; Checker Plate<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8544.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4481\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8544.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8544\" width=\"700\" height=\"486\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I fussy cut one of the birds from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/joggles-collage-sheets\/joggles-collage-sheets-watercolor-blue-titmouse-and-bluebird-jg401031.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joggles Watercolor Blue Titmouse and Bluebird Collage Sheet<\/a> and matted him with black card stock to help him contrast with the background. Since he needed somewhere to stand, I drew a branch onto brown card stock, shaded the edges with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/ink-pads\/archival-ink-pads\/archival-ink-pad-coffee.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Coffee Archival Ink<\/a>, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\/faber-castell-pitt-big-brush-pen-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Faber Castell Pitt Black Big Brush Pen<\/a>. Grain lines were added with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\/faber-castell-pitt-artist-pen-f-fine-tip-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">fine tip black Pitt Artist Pen.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8547.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4482\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8547.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8547\" width=\"700\" height=\"518\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everything was glued down including a TLC sentiment and a previously coloured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/joggles-sticky-snippets\/joggles-sticky-snippets-large-starburst-57744.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Large Starburst Sticky Snippet<\/a> for the sun. I went back to the wee bird and added a little more of the orange colour from the Sticky Snippet to the bird using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-gelatos\/faber-castell-gelatos-tangerine.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Faber Castell Tangerine Gelato <\/a>and a water brush. Then I added a little more colour to the bird&#8217;s other feathers with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-gelatos\/faber-castell-gelatos-cotton-candy.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Cotton Candy <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-gelatos\/faber-castell-gelatos-blueberry.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Blueberry Gelato<\/a>, partly to pull out the background colours and partly to ramp up the colour intensity of the bird to match that of the Lindy&#8217;s Starburst sprays. I also added some black lines to the bird to give him more contrast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8556.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4483\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8556.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8556\" width=\"700\" height=\"514\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The page still wasn&#8217;t doing it for me. It needed more texture, more white, and definitely a pop of black. I added the texture and white with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/mediums-gels-and-finishes\/other-brands-of-gels-mediums-and-finishes\/ranger-texture-paste.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Ranger Texture Paste<\/a> through one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/stencils\/joggles-9-inch-x-12-inch-stencils-and-masks\/joggles-stencils-punchinella-quintet-minis-10-33784.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joggles Punchinella Quintet &#8211; Minis Stencil<\/a> designs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8555.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-Ze6za9zk\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4484\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSCN8555.jpg\" alt=\"dscn8555\" width=\"700\" height=\"520\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pops of black I got by outlining some of the embossed stencil design and the tree branch with black Pitt pen, stamping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\/joggles-cling-mounted-rubber-stamp-background-noise-dots-33631.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Joggles Background Noise &#8211; Dots Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/ink-pads\/archival-ink-pads\/archival-ink-pad-jet-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Jet Black Archival Ink<\/a>, as well as adhering 1\/4 inch strips of card stock around the edges to provide a frame.<\/p>\n<p>Phew!
