Good morning, Joggles fans! It’s Kim<\/a> here today. \u00a0I am very excited to share this month’s DT project with you.\u00a0This time I have created a “Fairy Queen” canvas, using a wooden canvas, and lots of\u00a0goodies from the Joggles store.<\/p>\n

\"fairy2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\n<\/a>Dina Wakley Media Gesso<\/a><\/p>\n

Other supplies:<\/strong>\u00a0canvas; Beacon 3 in 1 Glue or Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue<\/a>; hot glue; moss; artificial ivy; paper clay;\u00a0Shimmers Texturez Sand Colour; tree bark; paint brushes;\u00a0Prima Art Alchemy Clear Crackle; quilting pins;\u00a0Prima Fairy Resin Pieces;\u00a0Prima Bird Nest Embellishment;\u00a0Petaloo Flowers;\u00a0Martha Stewart Sycamore Paint;\u00a0DecoCoat Grey Paint;\u00a0Deco Art Soy Paint Black.<\/p>\n

Here is my process:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"fairy3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I am using the\u00a0backside of a canvas, instead of the front, to give the impression of a notch in a\u00a0tree where fairies hide!\u00a0I gave the canvas a coat of gesso, then used some of the Prima Clear Crackle Paste and set\u00a0that aside to dry.<\/p>\n

\nOnce the canvas and crackle were dry, it was time to paint. I used several different tones\u00a0of paints, and I added gesso to some of the shades to make them lighter. The idea was to\u00a0make the wood look like the inside of a tree. I kept layering until I\u00a0was happy with the result.<\/p>\n

I added some black and grey paint on top of the brown tones and also coloured texture paste from Shimmerz. This gave more dimension and gave it more of the “bark” look that I was going for. I know it doesn’t look like a tree yet…but just wait \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

\"fairy6\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After I was happy with the paint, I used some real bark pieces I had from wood my husband and I have stashed away for our fireplace this winter. Please, don’t peel bark off a live tree if you are going to recreate this project. Always use bark from previously cut\u00a0wood or fallen branches\/trees.<\/p>\n

\"fairy7\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I glued the bark down with hot glue in various places all over the canvas. Can you start to\u00a0see a tree forming?<\/p>\n

\"fairy8\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Now it was time to tuck in moss here and there. I applied it\u00a0all over the canvas trying to\u00a0make the moss look natural, picking out different shapes and colour tones from the bag. I\u00a0adhered the moss with hot glue, but please be careful doing this. It’s very hot stuff with the\u00a0hot glue on it.\u00a0I love\u00a0how the bark looks with the moss. It really ended up looking and feeling so natural.<\/p>\n

Now it was time to add mushrooms. I created my own but did watch a tutorial by a\u00a0super talented lady named Nichola Battilana, who has a fantastic YouTube tutorial for making clay\u00a0mushrooms which you can find HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"fairy11\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I made my mushrooms differently, but did use long quilting pins in a similar fashion as she\u00a0did to create the stem of the mushrooms. I dry brushed on some brown, black, and white\u00a0paints and also gave the mushrooms a coat of Diamond Stickles because I wanted them\u00a0to look like they had fairy dust on them!<\/p>\n

\"fairy12\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In this photo, you can see my little mushrooms peeking out from the bark and moss.<\/p>\n

\"fairy13\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I continued all the way around the canvas with the moss until I was happy with the\u00a0result. I also added some artificial ivy to add a different texture and another layer\u00a0to the green moss.<\/p>\n

\"fairy14\"<\/a>
\nNow\u00a0it was time to cut out the collage images. This one of the fairy with the butterfly\u00a0crown is one of my favorites! I placed her in the middle, gluing her down with\u00a0Beacon 3 in 1 glue. Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue would work just as well. I had a wooden crown from my stash which I adhered to the top of the\u00a0picture since every queen does need a crown! I added some more Diamond Stickles to the crown for\u00a0added sparkle.\u00a0I tucked moss around her as well as she is peeking out from the center of the notch in the\u00a0tree.<\/p>\n

\nI also fussy cut several of the butterflies from the Papillion 1 and Papillion II collage\u00a0sheets and adhered them so they were fluttering around the Queen.<\/p>\n

More Diamond Stickles were added to each of the butterflies,<\/p>\n

\"fairy17\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"fairy18\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"fairy19\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I also edged them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to make the edges appear darker, rather than having the white of\u00a0the paper show.<\/p>\n

\"fairy20\"<\/a><\/p>\n

A rustic little bird’s nest with some loose feathers from my stash was placed in one\u00a0corner of the canvas.<\/p>\n

\"fairy21\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I also tucked in some Prima resin fairies which I embellished with Tim Holtz \u00a0Vintage Photo Distress Ink and more of the Stickles.<\/p>\n

\"fairy22\"<\/a><\/p>\n

You can see the Queen’s little fairy helpers spreading their fairy dust all over the\u00a0forest!<\/p>\n

A finishing touch was some gorgeous Petaloo flowers which were adhered in the corners to add some\u00a0softness.<\/p>\n

The collage sheets from Joggles really made this piece come to life. I love how the\u00a0butterflies look like they are in flight, and the beautiful Fairy Queen image is\u00a0holding a magical court over her fairy and furry friends.\u00a0Thanks so much for stopping by today.
