2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 32"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For today&#8217;s page I decided to try something different, right from the get-go.\u00a0 Typically I treat the background of a page or spread as one entity and what I do in one area I generally continue over the rest.\u00a0 Not today, I&#8217;m going to go for something else, where the background is not the same all over.<\/p>\n<p>My first thought was to divide the page in half, but as I played around that seemed less like a good idea and so I went with thirds.<\/p>\n<p>For this page\u00a0I divided the area into two sections before I so much as added color.\u00a0 I started with a pencil line, then realized it was unnecessary since I needed to control where the color was going.\u00a0 My background was sprayed with two colors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-sprays\" target=\"_blank\">Lindy&#8217;s Starburst Spray<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-sprays\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-spray-grab-a-guy-gold.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Grab A Guy Gold<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-sprays\/lindys-stamp-gang-two-toned-starburst-spray-wild-honeysuckle-coral.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Wild Honeysuckle Coral<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m getting ahead of myself&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-1-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3515\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-1\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used scrap paper to mask off the areas I didn&#8217;t want to spray with\u00a0Grab A Guy Gold, shook the bottle to make sure all of the mica was distributed in the liquid,\u00a0then sprayed the exposed space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-2-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3516\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Using scrap paper is simple and effective.\u00a0 When the gold section was dry I reversed the placement of the paper to leave the bottom to third exposed&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-3-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3517\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-3\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And sprayed Wild Honeysuckle Coral.\u00a0 Let it dry, then moved on to adding a divider between the two sections.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-4-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-4-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-4\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just two lines made with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\" target=\"_blank\">Black PITT Pen<\/a>, but it ended up not the look I was aiming for.\u00a0 I like it, but am gonna change it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-5-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3519\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-5-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-5\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is better.\u00a0 I prefer the darker color where the two meet and especially like the drips.\u00a0 Making it was easy: spray some of the color on a palette or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/misc-stamp-mixed-media-supplies\/inkssentials-nonstick-craft-sheet.htm\" target=\"_blank\">NonStick Craft Sheet<\/a>, pick up color on a brush and keep adding it to the area till it drips.\u00a0 Let it dry.\u00a0 It&#8217;s pretty well soaked so either give it ample time or help it along with some heat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-6-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-6-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-6\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the area is good and dry\u00a0grab your Black PITT Pen (Superfine or Fine tip will do) and add a doodled border to the area where the colors meet.\u00a0 This further emphasizes the separation between the two areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-7-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-7-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-7\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m very fond of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-virginia-england-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\/joggles-virginia-england-cling-mounted-rubber-stamp-rhonda-56806.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Virginia England&#8217;s Rhonda stamp<\/a>, so out she came and I stamped her on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/canvases-and-artist-quality-papers\/artist-quality-papers\/canson-watercolor-paper-9-inch-x-12-inch-90-cold-pressed.htm\" target=\"_blank\">90# watercolor paper<\/a>.\u00a0 Same thing with the sentiment which is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-everyday-valentine-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\" target=\"_blank\">Everyday Valentine stamps <\/a>we introduced not that long ago.\u00a0 This one is named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-everyday-valentine-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\/joggles-everyday-valentine-cling-mounted-rubber-stamp-pretend-your-dreams-56843.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Pretend Your Dreams<\/a>.\u00a0 The sayings are pithy and funny, and are suitable for lots of different projects.\u00a0 Both pieces are ready to go, but I&#8217;ve realized that they don&#8217;t really stand out from the background all that well.\u00a0 I know how to fix it, but before I do I need to add a bit more to the background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-8-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-8-2.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-8\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you look closely at the gold section you can see the subtle circles made using a yellow ink and my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\/joggles-cling-mounted-rubber-stamp-background-noise-circles-33639.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Background Noise &#8211; Circles stamp.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-9.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-9.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-9\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>See what I mean about the Rhonda and the sentiment not contrasting enough with the background?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-10.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3526\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-10.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-10\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I decided to add a bit to the top section, thinking it looked\u00a0a little bare.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-11.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3527\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-11.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-11\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Filled it in using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/art-journals-and-mixed-media\/faber-castell-pitt-brush-pens\/faber-castell-pitt-artist-brush-pen-b-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Black PITT Brush Pen<\/a>, then decided it still needed something.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-12.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-12.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-12\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I added some white dots.\u00a0 I also decided that the circles from the Background Noise &#8211; Circles stamp were boring, so I outlined them with a PITT pen and filled the three sizes with three colors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/stickles-glitter-glues\/original-stickles-glitter-glues\" target=\"_blank\">Stickles<\/a>.\u00a0 Better.\u00a0 Much better.\u00a0 Now to fix the lack of contrast and call it done&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-13.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-fjhx8XEf\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/2016-aja-week-31-13.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-31-13\" width=\"700\" height=\"575\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I used Bonnie&#8217;s layering with black cardstock technique and liked the look much better.\u00a0 I like the idea of creating areas within the background and suspect I&#8217;ll try this again in the not-too-distant
