Hi everyone! It’s Bonnie <\/a>here today with an accordion book I created filled with all kinds of layers and fun usage of rubber stamps. I featured the same Joggles bird stamp, Tweet Tweet, throughout but used parts of other stamps to create funky hats for each version. This book is definitely “For the Birds”.<\/p>\n

Here is my process:<\/strong><\/p>\n

To add colour to the background, the accordion book was opened over two NonStick craft sheets set side by side, and spritzed with California Poppy Gold and Marigold Yellow Orange Lindy’s Stamp Gang Two Toned Starburst Sprays.<\/p>\n

\"DSCN7712\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After allowing the sprays to dry slightly, Joggles Bubble Blast stencil was set over the background and Hottie Patottie Hot Pink Starburst Spray was generously spritzed through the openings. The colour pooled and seeped under the stencil which was what I was hoping for. The ink remaining on the stencil after all that spraying was transferred onto white cardstock by flipping the stencil face down onto it.<\/p>\n

Once the background was dry, Joggles Nonsense Latin Text Cling Mounted Rubber stamp was inked with Magenta Hue Archival Ink and applied randomly to the background by rolling the stamp onto it. Pale Ochre Archival Ink was used to stamp one of Stampotique Originals Kate’s Doodle Cube images randomly over the background.<\/p>\n

Large Starburst Sticky Snippets from a previously spritzed sheet (using Hottie Patottie Hot Pink, Yellow Rose of Texas, and Hag’s Wart Orange Lindy’s Stamp Gang Two Toned Starburst Sprays and Joggles Ancient Ruins stencil) were peeled off and applied to each panel. A black XS Pitt Artist pen was used to outline the starburst shapes and help them show up more clearly against the background.<\/p>\n

Torn strips of old book text paper were adhered on each left panel of the two page spreads using Dina Wakley Media Gel Medium. White gesso was scuffed over the text using a finger to apply it. This helps the text seem less “stuck on” and more embedded into the background.<\/p>\n

\"DSCN7736\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Black Marble Dylusions Paint was pounced through the star portion of Joggles Punchinella Quintet Minis stencil to further push the text and the Sticky Snippets shapes into the background.<\/p>\n

Ranger Texture Paste was scraped with a palette knife through TCW Mini Netting stencil to create texture. This was allowed to dry thoroughly.<\/p>\n

Joggle Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp – Tweet Tweet was applied to a Joggles Stamp Mount and stamped onto white cardstock 7 times using Jet Black Archival ink.<\/p>\n

The birds were coloured with Tim Holtz Distress markers using a water brush to spread the colour and vary the intensity.<\/p>\n

Portions of other Joggles rubber stamps (Funky Flowers 2, 5, 6, 8; Wonky House 2; Sally Surprise) \u00a0were stamped onto mop-up pieces of white cardstock using Jet Black Archival ink. I keep ATC size rectangles of white cardstock on my desk and use them to clean up any over spray on my craft mat. They are ready for me to use when I want to add a little something to a mixed media piece and blend better than regular coloured cardstock would.<\/p>\n

The birds and the “hats” were then fussy cut and edged with a black Faber Castell Pitt Brush Pen.<\/p>\n

The hats were adhered to the birds and both a white Sharpie Watercolor Paint Pen and a black Faber Castell XS Pitt Pen were used to add detail doodles to\u00a0give each bird a unique look. They were each adhered to black cardstock and trimmed leaving a narrow black border which would help them stand out from the busy background.<\/p>\n

The sayings for each panel plus the front and back covers were printed from the computer onto white cardstock. The words were cut out individually and adhered to black cardstock with Scor tape. They were then trimmed to leave a narrow black mat.<\/p>\n

A bird plus a die cut branch was adhered to the left side of each two page spread using Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue. A saying was adhered opposite the bird on the adjacent page using Scor Tape.<\/p>\n

A doodled border was added to the top, bottom and sides of the accordion book.<\/p>\n

The edges of the book were blackened with Black Big Brush Pen to frame it.<\/p>\n

That white cardstock which we flipped the spritzed stencil onto earlier to clean it off was cut into two 4 x 6 inch rectangles for the front and back covers. They were adhered with .5 inch Scor tape. On the front, a die cut frame was also adhered with Scor Tape to the background with the 6th bird peeking out of the frame. The title, For The Birds, was printed on white, matted with black, and adhered below the frame.<\/p>\n

On the back cover, washi tape was layered close to the bottom edge to give the 7th bird a place to stand. A Dina Wakley star which had been stamped onto white cardstock and embossed with black was adhered above the bird. The words, The End, were printed, matted, and adhered over the star.<\/p>\n
