2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having just arrived home from Salt Lake City very late Friday night (the 15th) meant I had little time to recover from a week that left me pretty darn tired AND get today&#8217;s page done and posted here on the blog.\u00a0 If you find this post and the page less than stellar, you know why.<\/p>\n<p>The idea was to create layers of interesting color and glimmer, then white out the negative space so only the areas I chose to highlight would be visible.\u00a0 I mostly achieved that goal, though in hindsight, there are some things I would do differently.\u00a0 That&#8217;s fodder for another blog post however!<\/p>\n<p>So this week&#8217;s prompt is to create a background you like and selectively allow only parts to appear; effectively blanking out the negative space to focus the viewer&#8217;s eye on the positive elements.<\/p>\n<p>Since Heidi Swapp Color Shine is more or less permanent once dry, I decided to use them on the background rather than paint like Dylusions or Dina Wakley&#8217;s Media line.\u00a0 Or Distress Paint for that matter.\u00a0 There is a difference between dry to the touch and cured to permanence.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t have time to wait, so went with Color Shine which tends to be mostly permanent a bit quicker.\u00a0 Note the word &#8220;mostly&#8221;.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll see some of one of the pinks bleed through the paint I covered the background with.\u00a0 Ah well, (sh)it happens.<\/p>\n<p>I chose these colors in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/heidi-swapp-color-shine\" target=\"_blank\">Color Shine <\/a>line: Butter, Citron, Hot Pink, Patina, Pink (no longer available, sorry), Salmon,\u00a0Sweet Mint, and Teal.\u00a0 Then I began to spray, a little at a time, beginning with Butter, then Citron, then down the line from lightest to darkest.\u00a0 If I felt like I&#8217;d obliterated one color once I sprayed another, I went back and added a new layer till I was satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the progression in photos.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not going to comment on each.\u00a0 The process more or less speaks for itself.\u00a0 Commentary will resume after the 10th photo!<\/p>\n<p><a the background that was in place when I moved on to sketching the flowers using a hard leaded pencil.\u00a0 There isn&#8217;t a photo of that since the lines were so light.\u00a0 I had all I could do to see them once I began to apply paint to the background, so knew a photo was a squinty waste of time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-11.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-WGdI8v4F\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-11.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-29-11\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I knew I wanted to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\" target=\"_blank\">Dina&#8217;s Heavy Body Paint<\/a> since it would provide better coverage than Dylusions or Distress, with less layers needed.\u00a0 Since I didn&#8217;t want stark white I mixed a tiny bit of Cheddar into White, resulting in something that looks like Titanium Buff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-12.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-WGdI8v4F\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3297\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-12.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-29-12\" width=\"700\" height=\"619\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Squinting like a crazy person, I was just about to make out the pencil lines.\u00a0 Where I couldn&#8217;t see them, I guessed.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll notice that the shapes are not perfect, with oddly shaped petals that are not the same size.\u00a0 The next step will cure all of those ills&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-13.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-WGdI8v4F\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-13.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-29-13\" width=\"700\" height=\"583\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By lining the flower centers and petals very loosely with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/sharpie-water-based-paint-marker\/sharpie-waterbased-paint-marker-extra-fine-tip-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Black Extra Fine Point Sharpie Water Based Paint Pen<\/a>, it brings the flowers into focus, but in a hazy kind of way that&#8217;s very forgiving.\u00a0 These are more or less the way I tend to doodle flowers in a less precise way.\u00a0 And yes, that&#8217;s one of the pinks that&#8217;s bleeding through the white paint on the background.\u00a0 I think it provides a bit of interest rather than having it be a solid sheet of white.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-14.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Clear Wink Of Stella Brush Marker <\/a>and added a layer of glimmer in the center of this flower.\u00a0 I also used it on the petals of one of the others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-17.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-WGdI8v4F\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3302\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-17.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-29-17\" width=\"700\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At this point I decided the page needed a border, so I added what you see here and went to work on the rest of the flowers till I was satisfied.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-18.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-WGdI8v4F\" data-rl_title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-18.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-29-18\" width=\"700\" height=\"607\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I debated whether to do anything more with the background, but it was getting late and I needed to finish, so I left it alone.\u00a0 My original idea was to cover the negative\u00a0area to allow the positive space of the flowers to shine &#8211; no pun intended &#8211; and am satisfied that I achieved that goal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/2016-aja-week-29-19.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-WGdI8v4F\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img
