2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the beginning of May and Week 18 of the Art Journal Adventure!<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s page incorporates elements from a number of things I&#8217;ve either had in process\u00a0or continue to work on.\u00a0 The most obvious is the bird &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-bloobel-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\/joggles-bloobel-cling-mounted-rubber-stamp-spike-56803.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Spike<\/a> &#8211; who is one of the\u00a0nine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-bloobel-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps?sort=d_desc\" target=\"_blank\">Bloobel<\/a> images that\u00a0debuted last week.\u00a0 As part of the prep to film the introductory video, I stamped some of each and began to add color.\u00a0 All are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/tim-holtz-distress-spray-stains\" target=\"_blank\">Distress Spray Stains<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/adirondack-color-wash\" target=\"_blank\">Color Wash<\/a>,\u00a0or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-ink-sprays-by-dyan-reaveley\" target=\"_blank\">Dylusions Ink Sprays<\/a>.\u00a0 As always, they were loaded into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/waterbrushes\/tim-holtz-water-brush-by-ranger-fine-detail-nib-tip33080.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Detail Water Brushes<\/a> and diluted with some water.<\/p>\n<p>Because my workbench tends to be an accumulation of whatever I&#8217;ve been working on, or whatever I may have pulled out to consider using, it&#8217;s usually a good bet that there are lots different types of products scattered about.\u00a0 A benefit of that is options to combine ones that I might not otherwise consider using together.\u00a0 That&#8217;s how I ended up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/rubber-stamps\/stampotique-originals\/stampotique-originals-7417-goth-grandfather-clock.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Stampotique Goth Grandfather Clock <\/a>with Spike.\u00a0 And because my brain works in weird ways, I put Spike with the clock and realized it was a bit of a play on words.\u00a0 Instead of a cuckoo clock I decided I had a cuckoo and his clock.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s how we ended up here, with this week&#8217;s prompt to illustrate a play on words.<\/p>\n<p>This page began with a thin layer of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-white-gesso-2oz-tube.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dina Wakley&#8217;s White Gesso <\/a>scraped on and allowed to dry.\u00a0 As you&#8217;ll see in\u00a0the photo, I chose colors and then didn&#8217;t use them all.\u00a0 That&#8217;s just the way it goes some of the time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2310\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-F8NfBHQ9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2310\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-18-1\" width=\"700\" height=\"498\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My original choice was\u00a0to use\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\/dina-wakley-media-heavy-body-acrylic-paint-turquoise.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Turquoise<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\/dina-wakley-media-heavy-body-acrylic-paint-ocean.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Ocean<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\/dina-wakley-media-heavy-body-acrylic-paint-blackberry-violet.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Blackberry Violet<\/a>, but I ended up subbing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\/dina-wakley-media-heavy-body-acrylic-paint-night.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Night<\/a> for the Blackberry Violet\u00a0 And I added some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\/dina-wakley-media-heavy-body-acrylic-paint-lime.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Lime<\/a> because it felt like the page needed a kick of color.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2311\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-F8NfBHQ9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full background.\u00a0 I was very engrossed in what I was doing and missed taking a photo after the Night paint was added, but before I spattered some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/viva-decor-maya-gold\/viva-decor-maya-gold-petrol.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Petrol Maya Gold Paint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-5.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2314\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-F8NfBHQ9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2314\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-5.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-18-5\" width=\"700\" height=\"715\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I added a border, because it feels like a page is incomplete with out them.\u00a0 For this one, I used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/sharpie-water-based-paint-marker\/sharpie-waterbased-paint-marker-extra-fine-tip-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Extra Fine Black Sharpie Water Based Paint Pen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-6.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2315\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-F8NfBHQ9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2315\" and his clock.\u00a0 I need to make sure there&#8217;s enough space above them to place the text.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2308\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-F8NfBHQ9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2308\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-8.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-18-8\" width=\"700\" height=\"464\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I&#8217;m going to letter, I&#8217;m going to lay it out first.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the biggest lesson I learned from Week 8&#8217;s Lettering Prompt:\u00a0take the time to put baselines in and pencil in the letters first.\u00a0 href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-aja-week-18-9.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2309\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-F8NfBHQ9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2309\" this time in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\/faber-castell-pitt-artist-pen-f-fine-tip-black-199.htm\" target=\"_blank\"> &#8220;F&#8221;, Fine <\/a>tip.\u00a0 Once the ink was dry, I carefully erased any remaining pencil marks.\u00a0 One thing I&#8217;ve learned is that even a PITT Pen will erase when it&#8217;s on top of dried acrylic paint like Dina&#8217;s or Dyan&#8217;s.\u00a0 Acrylic paint is nothing more than plastic with pigment (ok, it&#8217;s a little more than that, but you get my drift), so it forms a slick-ish surface when
