2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Borders are my thing when it comes to art journaling.\u00a0 To me a page looks a bit naked and incomplete if there isn&#8217;t a border to frame whatever it\u00a0contains.\u00a0 Week 16 of the AJA is all about borders.\u00a0 I thought I was going to have one as usual, but the spread morphed into an all border effort.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s spread began with the idea that there would be a bit of a chunky border toward the outside edge of the page, but first I needed some color.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2082\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2082\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-1.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-1\" width=\"700\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So on go the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-ink-sprays-by-dyan-reaveley\" target=\"_blank\">Dylusions Ink Sprays <\/a>(I used diluted versions of Tangerine Dream, Postbox Red, Pomegranate Seed, and Funky Fuchsia) and I&#8217;m off&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2083\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2083\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-2.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love the colors, but the page is flat and needs texture.\u00a0 Visual texture.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not adding pastes or gels here.\u00a0 I spritzed water through our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/stencils\/joggles-stencils-and-masks\/joggles-stencils-sunflowers-20-33724.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Sunflowers Stencil <\/a>and let it sit momentarily to rewet the Spray Inks, then picked up the water and color by pressing a paper towel to the wet areas.<\/p>\n<p>See that piece of paper in the top right corner?\u00a0 It&#8217;s there to contain any water overspray.\u00a0 Otherwise you end up with a ghosted pattern that looks like the edge of the stencil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2084\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2084\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-3.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-3\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I repeated the process a couple more times till I had texture over the entire spread.\u00a0 Then I used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/brushes-brushes-brushes\/princeton-watercolor-brush-4-fan-4350.htm\" target=\"_blank\">#4 Fan Brush <\/a>to spatter water over the spread &#8211; big spatters &#8211; and let it sit a moment to activate the Ink Sprays again.\u00a0 Same process as with the stencil.\u00a0 Once the water has had a moment to rewet, mop it up with a piece of paper towel.\u00a0 When you&#8217;ve finished ghosting, give the entire spread time to dry or use a heat tool to hurry the process along.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/faber-castell-pitt-pens\" target=\"_blank\">PITT Pens<\/a>, like most, do not like being used on a damp surface.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-4.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2085\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2085\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-4.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-4\" width=\"700\" height=\"362\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the surface is completely dry it&#8217;s time to begin the borders.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the kind of wide frame I began with.\u00a0 What to fill it with?\u00a0 Loopy things&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-5.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2088\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2088\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-5.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-5\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For lack of a better name, loopy things it is!\u00a0 Up next was a really narrow border drawn right next to the first one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-6.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2089\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2089\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-6.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-6\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>See in the upper left corner?\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got a checkerboard pattern started.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve also added another line inside of the first frame.\u00a0 It seemed like a good idea at the time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-7.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2090\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2090\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-7.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-7\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the first checkerboard finished I decided another one would provide a little continuity&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2091\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2091\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-8.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-8\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But I didn&#8217;t want it to be identical to the first one, so I made the checks longer.\u00a0 By now the idea that this page could be all borders has sunk in, so I started another layer of them.\u00a0 This one is just straight lines to fill in a section, then an open space filled with a heart.\u00a0 Rinse, repeat around the entire border.\u00a0 I used a metallic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/gelly-roll-pens\" target=\"_blank\">Gelly Roll Pen <\/a>to fill in the hearts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-9.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2092\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2092\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-9.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-9\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If a page without borders is naked and incomplete, one without some kind of glimmer is&#8230;\u00a0more naked and incomplete?\u00a0 Not good, that I know for sure.\u00a0 Since I&#8217;d ignored the temptation to spray Lindy&#8217;s Starburst Sprays on the background, I gave in to the call of the metallic Gelly Roll pen and filled in all of the hearts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-10.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2093\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2093\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-10.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-10\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By now the borders have gotten smaller and will continue to do so as I move more to the center of the page spread.\u00a0 Up next was a another style of loopy thingys and the beginning of another row of checkerboard pattern.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-11.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2095\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2095\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-11.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-11\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both of these loopy thingys are patterns that appear a lot\u00a0in my doodles.\u00a0 I like the shapes and how it feels to create them, so I use them &#8211; a lot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-12.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2096\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2096\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-12.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-12\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s that one completed.\u00a0 I filled in the inner loopy thinys by adding a smaller one inside of the first, then filling in the smaller one&#8217;s opening with straight lines.\u00a0 Almost finished.\u00a0 What remains is to figure out what to do with the inner rectangle created by all of those borders.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-13.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2097\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-13.jpg\" alt=\"aja-week-16-13\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Vertical rectangles.\u00a0 Skinny ones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aja-week-16-14.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2098\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-PrAkqejq\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2098\"
