2016 Art Journal Adventure &#8211; Week 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s page began as something completely different.\u00a0 I had an idea and\u00a0started to work on it, and initially it was great.\u00a0 Until it wasn&#8217;t, which was more than a little problematic.\u00a0 The plan was that this week would be one half of the spread and next week I would take the idea further on the second page.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll often hear me say that most pages gone awry are recoverable as there isn&#8217;t much a thick layer of gesso can&#8217;t cure.\u00a0 When faced with the mess that my original idea was, I\u00a0actually heeded my own advice and got out the jar of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-white-gesso-4oz-jar.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dina&#8217;s White Gesso <\/a>and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-palette-knife.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Palette Knife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1768\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-1.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-1\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And one very thick coat later, and a couple of hours of dry time, I was ready to move on.\u00a0 See all of that texture?\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to highlight it in a moment&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I am often asked about what I do with the Art Cards I create.\u00a0 One option is to use them as part of a larger project and that&#8217;s what I decided on as my fallback plan for today.\u00a0 Once that coat of White Gesso was dry I used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-brushes-mediums-fine-tip-applicators\/dina-wakley-media-black-gesso-2oz-tube.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dina&#8217;s Black Gesso<\/a> to add a layer of color.\u00a0 I knew it would dry very matte which is what I wanted, though I could have used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dylusions-paint-by-dyan-reaveley\/dylusions-paint-black-marble.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Black Marble Dylusions Paint <\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/dina-wakley-media\/dina-wakley-media-paint\/dina-wakley-media-heavy-body-acrylic-paint-black.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dina&#8217;s Black Media Paint<\/a>.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t want complete coverage and applied the gesso with my fingers, much like I did with last week&#8217;s warm colored background.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1769\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-2.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wanted to capture the texture left by the White Gesso, plus leave some white space to break up the starkness of the black.\u00a0 I also wanted to add something else&#8230; though I wasn&#8217;t entirely sure what, but since I hadn&#8217;t put away the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/finnabair-art-alchemy\" target=\"_blank\">Finnabair Art Alchemy Paints<\/a> I&#8217;d been playing with, I reached for one&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1770\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-3.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-3\" width=\"600\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Which ended up being the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/finnabair-art-alchemy\/finnabair-art-alchemy-acrylic-paint-opal-magic-aqua-rose.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Aqua Rose Opal Magic<\/a>.\u00a0 This style of paint gives the best results on a dark background, with the secondary color becoming very evident.\u00a0 With the background already very busy because of the texture from the White Gesso, I decided to just spatter the color on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-4.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1771\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1771\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-4.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-4\" width=\"600\" height=\"373\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I got out my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/tools-and-supplies\/brushes-brushes-brushes\/princeton-watercolor-brush-4-fan-4350.htm\" target=\"_blank\">#4 Fan Brush<\/a>, thinned the paint with some water, and spattered in the usual way: hold the brush in your dominant hand and tap it on an extended finger from the other hand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-5.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1772\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1772\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-5.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-5\" width=\"600\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I tested this method on a piece of scratch paper I could see the color on the black was shimmering as aqua and where the drops landed on white paper, they were pink.\u00a0 There wasn&#8217;t enough white background left, so I mostly ended up with aqua dots.\u00a0 Which was fine too!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-6.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1773\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1773\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-6.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-6\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Out came a couple of Art Cards I&#8217;d made when playing with the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/rubber-stamps\/joggles-bloobel-cling-mounted-rubber-stamps\" target=\"_blank\">Bloobel Designs stamps<\/a>.\u00a0 Because there was so much texture on the page I knew trying to use wet glue to adhere them was going to be an exercise in frustration, so instead I reached for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/rubber-stamps-and-paper-art-supplies\/scor-tape\" target=\"_blank\">Scor Tape<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-7.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1774\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1774\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-7.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-7\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And covered the back with it.\u00a0 Remove the lining paper to expose the adhesive and put &#8217;em where you want.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1775\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1775\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-8.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-8\" width=\"600\" height=\"439\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I decided on a diagonal layout which left the black squares at the top left and bottom right.\u00a0 What to put there was the next question.\u00a0 Some doodles was the initial idea&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-9.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1759\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1759\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-9.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-9\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Which I liked, but knew I didn&#8217;t want to fill the entire space with them. Since the Art Cards had Bloobel images on them it seemed to make sense to use others in those two open spaces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-11.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1761\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1761\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-11.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-11\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-12.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1762\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1762\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-12.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-12\" width=\"600\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I stamped, colored, and cut out two of the Quirky Birdies.\u00a0 And added some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/paint-dye-and-ink\/stickles-glitter-glues\/original-stickles-glitter-glues\" target=\"_blank\">Stickles<\/a> for good measure.\u00a0 Because glitter is a good thing and the birds practically demanded it.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t want them to appear to be floating, so I cut a few pieces of Deli Paper that was mounted to watercolor paper to give the birds something to perch on.\u00a0 I doodled on the pieces too, which will be a bit more obvious in the next images.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-13.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1763\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1763\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-13.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-13\" width=\"600\" height=\"529\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-14.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1764\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1764\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-14.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-14\" width=\"600\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-15.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1765\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1765\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-15.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-15\" width=\"600\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-16.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1766\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1766\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-16.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-16\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-17.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1767\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-nPWzTJcY\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1767\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joggles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-aja-week-12-17.jpg\" alt=\"2016-aja-week-12-17\" width=\"600\" height=\"376\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tags can be used the same way, so if you&#8217;re wondering what to do with them and the Art Cards you create&#8230;
