In today’s video I’ll demo some very simple techniques using Zig’s Clean Color Real Brush Markers.
As is suggested by the name, these markers have an actual brush with real bristles, making them quite unlike most others that have a felt tipped end shaped like a brush. The advantage here is the ability to press reasonably hard on the end which causes the bristles to splay. That might sound like brush abuse, but what it really does is allow you to create lines and shapes that vary in thickness.
The pressure applied to the bristles, and the subsequent splaying, is what makes those thicker areas. Releasing the pressure means the stroke reduces in width, growing thinner as you reduce how hard you’re pushing on the end. With a little practice you’ll get up to speed and will be creating thick and thin likes very easily. Once you’re to that point it’s only a short hop down the path of creativity till you’re creating borders and other elements.
New today, just in time for its debut in the video, is our 4″ Itty Bitty Accordion Book. It joins the 2″ and 3″ sizes, rounding things out with several options for you to create with. What makes the “Itty Bitty” versions of our Accordion Books different is that they’re sent to you as a strip, leaving it to you to decide what size/shape to score and fold the pages. Make a square, or try a rectangle, keeping in mind that you can orient the pages in either portrait or landscape fashion.
I took a couple of photos of my 4″ Itty Bitty Accordion Book (you see it several times in the video) which you can scroll down to and see under the list of supplies. You’ll also see my Art Journal Adventure Week 23 page. It featured the markers and I chose to color in a gradation. These markers are high quality, fun to use and easy to get the hang of!
If you decide to take the plunge and invest in some of the markers you’ll be rewarded with free Victorian Scrap Pictures. Each $10 you spend on products (excluding Gift Certificates) entitles you to a free sheet. Spend $50 and we’ll give you 5 free sheets AND discount the cost to ship your order!

I like it! beautiful colors!
Barb, just watched the Zig water brush video again. On the mini accordion book you used some butterflies. What/where are these on your site? Are they stamps or from a collage sheet?
Love the variety of styles.
Thanks
Hey Diana,
The butterflies are from one of our Collage Sheets – actually I think they came from two: Papillion I and II. That’s based on the colors of Clean Color Brush Pens I used. The elements on those two sheets coordinate with the Pen colors.
Collage Sheets are on sale till this Friday, the 20th, at 11:59 pm EDT. You’ll find them here on the site:
