That I’m a fan of all things shimmery is an open secret. I love the sparkle of glitter, the shimmer in Lindy’s Starburst Sprays, and the metallic glow of Inka Gold.
You’ll imagine my delight upon discovering the seven Dyna and four Iridescent colors in Pebeo’s Studio Acrylic line. The Dyna colors are made with interference pigments that cause the color to shift, depending on the angle of the light source while the Iridescent colors are all metallics; silver, gold, and copper. You can identify the Dyna colors by the name as there will be two colors noted, for example: Iridescent Green Blue [358]. The two colors are your clue that you’re playing with a Dyna(mite!) paint.
Like all acrylic paints, Studio Acrylics are water based which means they’re intermixable with the gels and mediums you may already own. You can also mix custom colors by blending a couple of the eleven we’re working with today, or blend them with other water based paint you have on hand. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of creating at that level, knowing you’ve whipped up a unique color.
In today’s video I’ll demo several ways to use the paint and each time you’ll see the awesome shimmer that the painted areas display. They’re especially fabulous used with a Gel Press Plate and you’ll see me use the paint and a couple of different sized plates. Each of the techniques will turn the plate upside down, working as though it’s a stamp rather than a static surface to print from. What you see me do is only the barest beginning. Using these paints is no different than working with any other water based acrylic. Just do it and enjoy the shimmer!

Great demo, Barb. I have the line of Pebeo iridescent and metallic paints and they are fantastic! They work great with the Gelli plate or with stencils and the colour selection is superb. I just finished a layout on Nortre Dame Cathedral in my Paris travel journal and used the metallics through paper punched borders and the effect was beautiful. Highly recommend this product! Thanks very much – I had a wonderful time working with the paint on the Gel Press Plates. I’m sure there will be more videos that include both not too far down the road!
