Today I’m back to working with one of my favorite tools; a Gel Press Plate. The difference today is that rather than my usual choice of printing with paint, I’m using Tim’s Distress Oxide Inks. What I discovered is that the ink’s ability to stay wet longer is very useful in this application, allowing ample time to make marks or otherwise manipulate the colors.
When it comes time for mark making, stencils are a great choice (as always) and work beautifully in combination with the inks. Rubber stamps are a good option for removing color and applying pattern and you’ll see me use them in an additive technique too.
The last technique takes rubber stamps just a bit further when I bring in one of my Creative Art Textures. They may look like a large rubber stamp, but my purpose in making them 11″ long was to allow you to texture the long side on up to an 8″ x 10″ plate. One press along the length, and you have instant patterning. They’re easy to work with and there’s no hard and fast rule that says you have to use the entire length. If you prefer to touch one and pick up color in a smaller section, go right ahead. Like any tool, the Creative Art Textures can be used any way that works best for you.
