Having previously worked with Heidi Swapp’s Color Shine sprays, I more or less knew what to expect when I began to use them; that the colors would be intense and more or less opaque and that they’re mostly permanent. What was different are the new colors, 9 of them, released in early to mid-2016. Within the new group are both warm and cool colors, plus “Sheer” that is a really pretty gold shimmery color that’s suspended in a mostly clear spray.
Unlike a dye based spray like Dylusions or Distress Spray Stains, Color Shine are pigment based and this is what makes them mostly opaque. That pigment makes for a quite different appearance when you apply them to a surface and interestingly enough, for some real fun effects when combined with a dye based spray. You see striations of the clear dye spray meld and begin to blend with the Color Shine pigment and mica powder. Apply enough of both and you can tip the piece and cause runs, drips, and assorted other patterns.
If you’re looking for new products to experiment with I think you’ll enjoy Color Shine. The range of colors is great, plus they glimmer and look terrific on black. What more could you ask for??

Love the sprays and stencils! I would love to see more of the different brands of sprays in projects to understand how they interact with each other. Having many different brands of sprays etc before I would purchase another brand I would like to see the what I can do with what I have, maybe adding a few choice colors to enhance them. Thanks barb for your cool demoing. I know it must take a lot of thought and understanding of each product to make projects for us!
Got another thought to add after I looked through all the colors of the product used today; can walnut stain spray be used or diluted with this product? Or tattered Angels or the Fireworks sprays? There just so many fabulous products coming out that we purchasers are being inundated with what to choose. Thanks Barb for sorting out these sprays etc for us – appreciate it.
I love all your videos but most especially appreciate that there is no annoying background music, no long intro of your logo, you get right to it, I only see what you are demonstrating, never seeing your face, you list the product and the link, it’s clear understandable and I just have to give a big thank you for your wonderful
professional presentation. Best I have ever seen above nearly everything out there. They all could take a cue from you.
Hi Dottie,
I’m glad you found the video helpful.
In terms of mixing brands, the easiest thing to do is just try and see what happens. So long as you don’t combine a water based or acrylic based product with one that is completely different, such as a solvent base, you should be able to combine with a reasonable expectation of good results.
Yes, you can mix the products you mentioned as they’re all water based.
It’s really just a matter of getting out the bottles and beginning to spray!
