DT Post – Frezja’s Creativity Art Journal Page
      April 22, 2016

Hello, I’m Frezja  and this is my first post as a Joggles Design Team member. I hope you will like it 🙂

I created an Art Journal page with a quote that is important to me. I also love flowers so they could not be left out of my project..

For this page, I featured stencils, and used them in several different ways. How? You will see in my tutorial below.

      Supplies list:

      Joggles Stencils – Secret Garden

Joggles Masks – Floral Fantasy Mask

      Joggles Stencils – Ancient Ruins

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Spun Sugar

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Worn Lipstick

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Old Paper

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Shabby Shutters

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Wild Honey

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Black Soot

Other: black gel pen; sponges; 6 x 9 inch white paper; adhesive of your choice

      VLUU L310 W / Samsung L310 W

First, on a blank page I stencilled the leaves using a sponge to apply Tim Holtz Old Paper Distress Ink  through Joggles Secret Garden Stencil.

      VLUU L310 W / Samsung L310 W
With the stencil still in place, apply Shabby Shutters to the points of each segment to create shading.

With a sponge, apply Spun Sugar Distress Ink through Joggles Floral Fantasy Mask  filling in some of the white spaces. Darken the shading with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink.

Add more flowers and detail using the same stencil and Wild Honey Distress Ink. Keeping the stencil in place, apply a little Worn Lipstick over some of the Wild Honey to add shading and interest.

Trace around the shapes to outline them using a black gel pen to add detail and define the shapes.

At this point, I checked the overall design to see if any area needed stencilling added to improve the composition. I added another leaf by tracing the stencil with a black pen. Colour was not added to this leaf.

I added some loopy lines to connect the flowers to each other and create flow. Circles and other doodled details were also introduced.

I kept adding detail, dots, and doodles until I was happy with the way it looked.

On the edges of the page, I used a sponge to lightly add Black Soot Distress Ink through Joggles Ancient Ruins Stencils to create a frame.

Trim around the individual words in the quote and adhere to the page.

To finish the page, here’s a trick I always use to highlight the key words in the quote: using a piece of charcoal, outline the important words and blend with your finger. This frames and draws the eye to them.

And my art journal page was finished. I hope you will use Joggles stencils in this way in your next art journal, too.

Great tutorial Frezja! I love the way you intentionally used the stencils to create a new image! The outlining of the stencils with black pen and your zentangle-like doodling really makes the flowers pop. Nice job!
