Hi everyone. It’s Bonnie here today. Halloween is right around the corner and I am smitten with these adorable stamps by Joggles/Red Wooden Flag. They are quirky and fun, suitable for cards and invitations for recipients of all ages. I had a blast creating three Halloween cards using six of these cling mounted rubber stamps. I think I smiled the whole time I was playing.

Here is my process:

Three pieces of 6 x 6 inch bristol artist tiles were cut .5 inches smaller top and bottom than the card base. In my case, I cut them at 4.75 x 6 inches. One was spritzed lightly with water using an Inkssentials Mini Mister and then spritzed with Dylusions After Midnight and Crushed Grape Spray Inks. By tilting the paper in different directions, the ink created runs and drips. While it was still wet and puddling, a folded patterned paper towel was smoothed over the top to absorb the excess spray. It left a cool pattern in the ink which, when dried immediately with a heat tool, remained on the paper.

The second rectangle of bristol paper was spritzed the same way, this time using Squeezed Orange and Postbox Red Dylusions Spray Inks. The excess ink was allowed to dry without soaking any up with paper towel first.

The third bristol rectangle was spritzed with water and then Dirty Martini and Fresh Lime Dylusions Spray Inks. I intentionally left white space on all three backgrounds. Again, dry without sopping up excess ink with a paper towel.

I love these new 6 x 9 inch Joggles/Margaret Applin Designs Stencils. I placed This & That #2 over the orange background and Global #1 over the green background, spritzed water over both, and waited a few seconds. Then I took a paper towel and set it over the stencils. By rubbing with my hands, I was able to remove the ink through the openings creating texture and tone on tone pattern. Let dry.

Joggles/ Margaret Applin Designs Global #2 Stencil was placed over the purple background and Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through some of the openings. It picked up the sprays from the background giving an interesting effect. The same step was repeated using the This & That #3 stencil on the green background and This & That #1 on the orange background. On that one, I ran the pattern horizontally at the bottom to ground the images. This was left to air dry. Black pen was used to outline some of the Texture Paste stencilling to help it show.

While the Texture Paste was drying, each of the six Joggles/Red Wooden Flag cling mounted rubber stamps were placed on a Joggles Acrylic Stamp Mount, inked with Jet Black Archival Ink, and stamped onto white card stock. They were then roughly cut apart to make colouring easier.

Derwent Coloursoft pencils were used to colour in Scaredy Cat, Ghost, Pumpkin, and Mummy. Only the skin areas of the vampire and witch were coloured  because I wanted to paper piece the rest.

The clothing of the witch and the vampire were again stamped using Jet Black Archival Ink, only this time they were stamped onto scraps of designer paper. They were cut out, shaded with pencils, and adhered over the original white card stock images using Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue. Once dry, all of the images were cut out leaving a narrow white border, adhered to black card stock, and cut out again. The second narrow black border frames them and helps them contrast with the background.

I usually audition my images on the background to see who wants to travel together and what else I need to create a scene or ground them. The ghost and pumpkin were going on the same card but they needed a sidewalk to stand on. I cut two of the extra long rectangular Sticky Snippets pieces away from the rest of the sheet and spritzed them with Down the Rabbit Hole Lindy’s Starburst Spray. A row of the Sticky Snippets Medium Circles was also cut away from the sheet and then spritzed with Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow Orange, and California Poppy Gold Lindy’s Starburst Sprays.

Once they were dry, one of the rectangular Sticky Snippets was stamped using Joggles Bubbles Foam Stamp and a mix of White Linen and Black Marble Dylusions Paint. Once dry, black sidewalk cracks were drawn in.

The other long gray Sticky Snippet was cut into two lengths which would serve as horizontal fence rails. The piece left was cut in half to make two fence posts. Jet Black Archival Ink was sponged on the ends and one side of each. Black grain lines were doodled in with a black Pitt Artist pen. White Sharpie Paint Marker was used for the highlights.

Attaching the Sticky Snippet fence to the background was so easy…just peel off the backing and press them in place. Love that! A length of washi tape adhered to white card stock was used for the ground line.

The Medium Circles Sticky Snippets were going to become the moon and stars on two of the cards. The moons were stamped with Pale Ochre Archival ink using Joggles Nonsense Latin Text Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp and edged with the same ink. Although there are star Sticky Snippets and I have them, I never let any of the remnants go to waste and since they were already coloured, I punched six stars from the leftovers and edged the points with Orange Blossom Archival Ink. The wording was printed onto white card stock, cut into segments, and matted with black card stock using Scor Tape to adhere the segments to the black..

The moon and stars were adhered to the card fronts, outlined. and doodled on with black Pitt Pen. A little cheesecloth was added to the sky of the purple background to create a cloud. You will see in the close up below that I added a second piece beside this one once I attached the stamped and fussy cut bat.

A simple doodled border was done with black Pitt Pen and a few White Sharpie waterbased Marker highlights were also added.

The images and wording were adhered to the cards using Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue.
