Today I’m working with Yupo, but unlike in previous videos where my media of choice has been alcohol inks, today I’m working with different products: Dylusions and Color Wash sprays, Distress and Dylusions Paint, Lindy’s Starburst Sprays, StazOn for stamping, and several kinds of pens.
At first blush you might wonder how these products would react when placed on what essentially is a sheet of plastic, which is as non-porous a surface as you’ll find. The answer: really well!
Because Yupo has such a flat, matte surface many water based products work beautifully. There are some differences; you’ll see me dry a small area of Purple Twilight Color Wash spray and see how the color changes to more of a grey-purple than the bright purple you usually see when this color dries. And there are exceptions; Distress Spray Stains do not dry well on Yupo, nor does Archival Ink.
What’s most interesting is that on Yupo you’ll see different patterning with sprays than you may be accustomed to. Because the liquid has to evaporate off the surface rather than absorbing into it, it runs and pools differently. If you’re itching to try something a bit different, give Yupo a try
