Welcome to the first Wednesday of 2016 when the Art Journal Adventure gets underway. I’m really psyched about this year-long project and can’t wait to see what you create as we work together in our journals.
Today’s kickoff is the outlier: the weekly posts here on the blog will happen on Monday and will take the form of photos and a written description rather than a video. That means the 2nd post will go live next Monday, January 11, 2016, when you see what I have up my sleeve for week 2.
My goal for this project is to actively journal each week, creating based on a theme, idea, or technique. Since I wanted to note the journal as devoted to this project, I chose a brand new Dylusions Square Kraft Journal, which measures 8″ x 8″. The plan is to create a page or page spread each week, but having said that, there is ample room in the journal if I decide that whatever I’m doing needs more than one.
Also beginning today is a new savings promotion where you can save big… $5, $10, $20 or $30 if you spend $50, $100, $200, or $300 in total, excluding gift certificates, shipping and sales tax.
The savings have been programmed into the website and are applied to your order automatically. You will see the details of what you will save when checking out, on the last page, where the order is itemized and the total noted.
I hope you join me and create your version of the 2016 Art Journal Adventure!

excited about your art journal adventure. i'm in 3 art journaling groups and i'm going to try to combine them all into one book. should be interesting. i love all your color tutorials, so i will be following your blog closely. thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. you are greatly appreciated! i get requests to teach color on a regular basis – and plenty of what i know i learned from you. the rest is trial and error. thanks again. now. to the shop i go 🙂 alice hendon
I love this idea and I’m looking forward to your posts!
Happy New Year Barb!
My New Year’s resolution was that this year would be about ART! Thank you for this opportunity to spur myself along to journal each week. I look forward to getting started!
I am very interested in this project— hope to follow along!
I enjoyed watching you and will enjoy the tutorials too I am sure. I am planning to follow along with you. I was wondering if there is a way to post everyone’s photos of their version so we can see a bunch of different interpretations of the same page?
Thanks, for doing this I am very new to art journaling and really need to have help getting ideas and this is going to be a real blessing to me.
I know I am going to enjoy this art journal adventure – I do believe it will be fun! Thanks!
I think I’m going to jump in with you with the art journaling. The part that I am SOOO looking forward to is learning how to use all kinds of media, if and how they work with each other and what brands work with others. So exciting. Thanks Barb for all your time investment and for your creative brain!! Lol.
Barb – I’m doing this with you and very excited. The Dylushions Notebook I ordered from you arrived yesterday, just in time. Happy New Year!
Thank you for your great tutorial. I am looking forward to join you on this adventure. But I wondering; Is there some way we can share our Art Journal pages with each other?
Happy New year btw 🙂
Hugs, Anita
I’ve been really looking forward to this. I’ll be working in a Dylusions 5X8 so my Adventure should be interesting.
I’m doing the 5 x 8, too. I’ve never done an art journal before and the larger size intimidated me. I’m having a hard time deciding what colors to use for the first page. I have a tendency to turn everything into a monumental decision and I hope this journal will get me to loosen up. I’m determined to have fun. Wish me luck.
So looking forward to participating! Love your videos and all the new items you get into your shop! I’m an addict!! Wishing you and your family a most Happy and healthy New Year!!
Barbara I do believe you’ve got an excellent idea with this journal, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again just love your video’s and can’t wait for the next one.
Hi, Barbara–
I need to learn Adobe Photoshop and all its digital tools. Your art journal challenge is just what I needed to motivate me to learn.
I just made the Title page–and I have no idea how I did it!! I tried to make the second page, but I couldn’t do what I wanted to do. Now I will watch a tutorial, or two or several and try to make the second page this week.
I have a library of images, brushes, graphics from my subscription to a graphics site and this challenge will give me the impetus to learn how to use them in digital journaling.
A great thing about the journal being digital is that I can work on it anywhere, right on my tablet.
Thanks for offering me this opportunity. I have a tendency to be “out of the box.”
Your first two pages turned out great! Love the blue/green. Adding the green to the letters perfected them. 🙂
I had decided that 2016 would be my year for art discovery – hence the title Art Journey Voyage. I am going to attempt to include some of my favorite quotes with each week’s page. This is so much fun. Thanks Barb!
Here is what I did. I can’t wait to see others.
This is what I came up with. Pretty much just followed Barb’s lead
