In today’s video I’m working with another Cosmic Shimmer product, this time their Iridescent Watercolor Paint. Like all of the CS products, they’re high quality and well made. As with the previous ones I’ve played with, the big attraction is the glimmer and shine.
Packaged in sets of 12, they combine the best qualities of watercolor paint with the shimmer of mica powder. The plastic case is nicely done and allows you to see through the clear lid and view the colors held in the palette. They’re compact enough to travel easily but not so small as to be frustrating to work with.
If you’re not well acquainted with watercolor paints, rest assured that you don’t need to be a fine artist to get the most from them. In the video you’ll see me demo some simple techniques that allow you to use them in a more mixed media fashion to create interesting backgrounds; both with a brush and also using Tim Holtz’s Wrinkle Free technique. Grab a brush and use these paints to color stamped images – they perfect for that simple type of creative play.
Since these are watercolor paints, it makes sense to work on watercolor paper, right? Enter our Watercolor Art Parts and Watercolor Disc Bound Journals – both made from Strathmore’s 140# cold pressed watercolor paper. Having said that, when you see me creating a background on an ATC, that’s Strathmore’s Bristol paper – the paint is equally effective on both for most techniques.

I’ve just ordered 4 of the sets. I’m curious to see how they compare to the metallic watercolor palettes sold by USArt Quest. Those are my go-to metallic watercolors right now. I picked 4 palettes that will add to the colors of the USArt Quest palettes I already have. I really love the quality of their paints – very rich and creamy – so I’m hoping these will be too. Thanks for all of the videos. I look forward to them every week because you use products that I won’t see in local stores. You’re like our own Creativation!!

Just received my first package of this wonderful paint a couple of days ago. It is really lovely, and interesting for a water color paint in that is stays where you put it, and doesn’t seem to diffuse unless you add a bit more water. I have used it with rubber stamps, to paint flowers, and also to paint teabags. I hesitated for a while and decided to get just one palette and chose the Carnival Brights as a “beginner” set. I hope I didn’t RE-order too late to get in on the next shipment. Which I hope will be soon. Very soon.
