After missing last week I’m back with the final page in my 2016 AJA journal. It’s been an incredible adventure and journey and I enjoyed the process and having you all follow along.
The Week 52 prompt is color block, as in block off areas of your page with solid color, then do something in those spaces. I’ll admit that the page, mine anyway, was not pretty once the colors were blocked in, but I kept at it and by the time I added some layers of doodles, it got way better.
I chose warm and cool colors and there really was no rhyme or reason to how I applied them.
Not pretty, right? It’ll get better.
These are my colors and you can see I began adding layers by lining the narrow white stripe with a black Sharpie Water Based Paint Marker.
I didn’t take a photo after each addition of a doodle, otherwise there would be a lot (lot!) of photos. You can see the progression just by moving from image to image, so I’ll end the commentary here and just give you the photos.

I have been told that you must “work through the uglies” to get an amazing result. And, although yours is not as bad as many of mine have been (some never recovered!), your final result is lovely. You are truly the queen of doodling!
Thanks very much. I do try to persevere, but some of the time whatever it is isn’t worth continuing the struggle for. This one was however!
I love how you transformed these blocks into dimensional and gorgeous pieces of a cohesive whole. What a fabulous outcome! Thanks for taking us along with you on this adventure, Barb. I have learned so much and made wonderful new friends who inspire me! I’m excited for 2017!
Thanks Bonnie!
I should have mentioned in the post that we’ll be continuing the adventure in 2017 – you and I together!
Thank you so much Barb and Bonnie for this wonderful year. I have missed working in my journal the past few months and will have to catch up later. We are moving and had to pack many of my art supplies. Looking forward to joining in the fun again soon.
You’re welcome. Good luck with the move… I hope we see you back up and creating, soon!
I want to thank you Barb for this adventure, have followed along since the first post! Thank you for your time and dedication to this process! Thank you for teaching all of us so very much. I know that at times this has been a burden on you. So excited to hear that the fun will continue in 2017!!!!
You’re welcome Julie. It’s been fun, most of the time, and most of the time I’ve enjoyed the process. :+)
That turned out really nice. I think that is a “therapy” piece. so soothing to doodle…
Thanks Gracie!
Hello, Queen of the doodles, this page is fantastic! Some of the designs, I have never thought of…, and have made note do them, so I can use them in my future pieces. Thank you and I hope for you and your loved ones, a joyous New Year!
Thanks Cheryl! The best to you also for a fab 2017. :+)
You are the best doodler! I will give this a try after I am done sorting and reorganizing. Thank you for sharing all your ideas and videos. You inspire creativity and your work is so well thought out and presented. They are not too long or too short.
A Happy New Year to you all.
