DT Post – Lisa Somerville’s Winter Artist Trading Blocks & Ornaments
      December 16, 2016

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-finished-view

Hi there Joggles Fans! Lisa here today to share my Artist Trading Blocks and Ornaments using Joggles Collage Sheets and Stencils, along with the Gel Press Plate and Ranger Distress Inks.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-supplies

      Supplies:

Joggles Pre-cut Mat Board – Artist Trading Block (Assortment Pack)

Joggles Collage Sheets: Snowy Portrait 2, Christmas Character Illustrations 1, Snowy Portrait 1, Domino Santas 1

      Joggles/Margaret Applin Stencils & Masks 6” x 9”: Global 4

Joggles Stencils 9” x 12”: Flowerburst, Swirly Whirls

      Inkssentials NonStick Craft Sheet

Ranger Inkssentials Mini Ink Blending Tool [40965]

      Ranger Inkssentials Empy Spray Bottle

Distress Ink Pads: To coordinate with your Collage Sheets

      Gel Press Reusable Print Plate – 5″ x 7″

Idea-ology by Tim Holtz – [TH93197] Fragments, Game Pieces or Facets

      Inkssentials Glossy Accents

      Dina Wakley Media White Gesso

      Scor-Tape

      Ranger Texture Paste

Other Supplies: Matte Medium, adhesive, Dimensionals/Pop Dots, scissors, Big Shot, basic shape dies (I used Our Daily Bread Designs Circles/Square Dies), card stock, foam brush, ribbons, gold leafing pen.

      Here is my process:

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-1-paint-atb-with-gesso

Working on an Inkssentials NonStick Craft Sheet, use a foam brush to apply white gesso to the Artist Trading Block (ATB) sections. Let dry.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-2-apply-ink-to-gelpress-add-stencil

Smoosh Distress Ink onto Gel Press Plate directly from the pads and spritz with a Mini Mister filled with water. Place Joggles/Margaret Applin Designs Global #4 stencil over inky Gel Press Plate.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-3-press-atb-to-gel-press-stencil

Place ATBs over the stencil and press down to pick up ink. Lift straight up, let dry, and clean stencils. Repeat with other ATB sizes/Distress Ink combinations/stencils as desired.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-4-apply-ink-over-stencil-for-contrast

For added contrast, place Joggles Swirly Whirls stencil over the printed ATB and apply the same colour Distress Ink used in the Gel Press step over the stencil openings with a mini ink blending tool.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-5-apply-texture-paste-over-stencils

Place Joggles Flowerburst stencil over ATB. Use a foam brush to apply Ranger Texture Paste through the stencil openings. Allow to dry. Be sure to clean your stencil before the paste dries on it.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-6-let-dry-embellish-assemble-embellish-as-desired

Assemble ATB using Scor-Tape. Barb has a great video on the Joggles YouTube channel demoing how to construct these artist trading blocks if you are unsure. Embellish as desired.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-7-cut-collage-sheets-with-dies-if-desired

To embellish my ATB, I die cut images from the collage sheets using shaped dies, then layered them onto card stock, and adhered them to the ATB using dimensionals to pop them up.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-8-add-glossy-accents-to-collage-sheet

You can also use images from the collage sheets with Game Pieces or Facets to create ornaments. Apply Glossy Accents to the Collage Sheet/Game piece.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-9-adhere-fragments-or-adhere-collage-sheet-to-game-piece-let-dry

Adhere Collage Sheet to game piece/facets and let dry.

      dt-lisa-somerville-12-16-step-10-embellish-as-desired

Embellish as desired. I used a Gold Leafing Pen to color the edges of the game piece, and tied on ribbon.

Here are the finished ATBs and ornaments.

I hope I’ve inspired you to create art!

Love this project today! Guess it is about time, I begin “art bucket list!” You come up with the best projects, making use all the supplies I have collected ( or hoarded, depending on whom you ask! ). But I do,get to most of them…. The first thing I am going to play with, once we are settled in our new home across country, are the ornaments and alcohol ink. I already have all the supplies, although they are packed and leaving in a moving van all the way from Spokane/Coeur d’ Alene, to Maine. ‘Else, I would be making them now! So, when I am done Barb, I will send you an email, letting you know everything arrived, hopefully in one piece, and all my supplies aren’t ruined from 10 days in frigid temperatures, and, with the, email,,I,will include some photos of whatever it is,I end up doing. I do really. want to play with the ornaments. Merry Christmas to,you, your staff, friends, amd family. Be well, and I hope you continue for many years, doing all,the work that goes into doing your videos and sharing how to use supplies with some of the cool stuff you always offer us at a discount. Barb and gang, I always come and watch videos and read blog posts, and you guys are still my #1 go to for specific lessons. Merry holidays holidays to you all!
