Journaling In The Dark - Creating With Black Backgrounds

Today we’re back into journaling, this time “journaling in the dark”, on black backgrounds.

Black can present some challenges, but it also offers you drama and high contrast when you work with light colors or white. There’s a lot of different ways to approach working on black backgrounds and I’ll show you a couple of options for getting color on the page and then some fun things to try.

The other thing I found when working with black backgrounds is that when combined with the right colors and subject matter it can present a cheerful look. Which is not what you’d expect, but that’s what happens! You’ll see an example of a cheerful black page spread and another where the look is very different. Halloween is one theme that’s easy to bring to life with black backgrounds, combined with other colors and imagery.
