DT project – Lisa Somerville’s Always Right Mixed Media Framed Art
      October 28, 2016

      dtlisa1028finishedview

Hi there Joggles fans!  Lisa here today, and I’m excited to share my Mixed Media Tutorial with you!  I enjoyed creating this framed art piece using Joggles Stamps, Stencils, Sticky Snippets along with Dylusions Paints/Sprays and the Gel Press Plate.

If you look closely as this week’s tutorial, you’ll notice my naked nails this week, lol! After the past few Mixed Media Tutorials, I opted for no nail polish this week, as the paints/stains and Gesso were taking a toll on my hands!

I also want to mention that because I’m working with Ink Sprays this week, you’ll not only want to fully cover your work station, but you might also want to wear an apron or old clothes (ask me how I know, lol)!  And because I tend to use my fingers a lot rather than a brush, you might opt for gloves, as my hands get inky!

      Supplies:

Joggles/ Margaret Applin Designs Cling Mounted Rubber Stamps: Vintage Correspondence, Grunge Spots Border

Dylusions Ink Sprays – Pure Sunshine, Bubblegum Pink, London Blue

Joggles Stencils – Punchinella Trio 2, Flowerburst [10-33746]

Joggles Sticky Snippets™ – Small Starburst

      Inkssentials NonStick Craft Sheet

Ranger Inkssentials Mini Ink Blending Tool [40965]

Archival Ink Pad – Jet Black

Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad – Gathered Twigs

      Joggles Deli Paper

Joggles Clear Acrylic Stamp Mounts – to fit your images

Dina Wakley Media White Gesso – 4oz Jar

Dylusions PAINT :  Funky Fuchsia, White Linen, London Blue, Pure Sunshine

Strathmore Mixed Media Vellum Paper Pad 6″ x 8″

Tim Holtz Water Brush by Ranger – Fine Detail Nib [TIP33080]

      Gel Press Reusable Print Plate – 5″ x 7″

Other Supplies: Heat Tool, baby wipes, Gel Medium such as Dina Wakley Media Gel Medium, foam brush or cosmetic sponges, Black Pigment Pen.

      Here is my process:

      dtlisa1028step1addgesso

Working on a NonStick Craft Sheet, apply Gesso to two pieces of Mixed Media Paper. Let dry.

      dtlisa1028step2spritzdylusions

Place Gel Press Plate onto work surface and spritz with Bubblegum Pink, London Blue, and Pure Sunshine Dylusions Ink Sprays.

      dtlisa1028step3placepaperongelliplate

Place Mixed Media Paper onto the spritzed Gel Press Plate and press down. Lift straight up to pull the print and set it on your work station.

      dtlisa1028step4addstencil

Place the Joggles Flowerburst Stencil over the inked Mixed Media Paper and blot with paper towel.  If you want to remove more color from the stencil openings, use a Baby Wipe or wet paper towel.  Remove and clean stencil.

      dtlisa1028step5letdry

Let panel fully dry before proceeding.

      dtlisa1028step6optionalpresswetstencilonextrapaper

***Optional, while stencil is still wet, press it onto extra pieces of Mixed Media paper and save prints for future use.

      dtlisa1028step7stampoverstencil

Place stencil over pulled print. Ink Joggles/Margaret Applin Designs Vintage Correspondence Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink and stamp over stencil through the openings.  Repeat as desired.

      dtlisa1028step8letdry

      Let dry and clean stencil.

      dtlisa1028step9stampdelipaper

Using Jet Black Archival Ink, stamp Joggles/ Margaret Applin Designs Grunge Spots Border Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp onto Deli Paper several times.

      dtlisa1028step10adddelipaperwithgelmedium

Rip pieces of the Deli Paper and apply to background panel using Gel Medium. Let dry.

      dtlisa1028step11stampimagesonpaperthatwascoveredingesso

Using Jet Black Archival Ink, stamp Joggles/ Virginia England Rhonda and Ralph Cling Mounted Rubber Stamps onto the second piece of Mixed Media Paper which you had covered with Gesso. Let dry.

      dtlisa1028step12addpaintswithwaterbrush

Place a little of each of the Dylusions Paints onto the Gel Press Plate (I used it like a paint palette) or your NonStick Craft Sheet. Use the Water brush to pick up paint and color in the stamped images.  Let dry. Clean brush and Gel Press Plate.

      dtlisa1028step13addpaintoverstencilonstampedimages

Place Joggles Punchinella Trio 2 stencil over the colored images, and, using your finger, dab Dylusions White Linen Paint through some of the stencil openings to add interest to stamped images.

      dtlisa1028step14letdry

Let panel dry and clean stencil.  Once completely dry, cut out images and  sponge edges using a Rangers Inkssentials Mini Ink Blending Tool and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Set aside.

      dtlisa1028step15stampsentimentondelipaper

Stamp Dylusions sentiment in Jet Black Archival Ink onto Deli paper and cut out.

      dtlisa1028step16addpaintoverstencil

Place Joggles Punchinella Trio 2 stencil over background panel and apply Dylusions London Blue paint over stencil openings using your fingers. Repeat as desired. Let dry and clean stencil.

      dtlisa1028step17outline

Adhere stamped images and sentiment to panel using Gel Medium.  To make the images/sentiment pop, outline using Black Pigment Liner Pen.

      dtlisa1028step18spongeedgesuseasdesired

Sponge edges of finished piece with an Ink Blending Tool and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

I hope I’ve inspired you to create art! Thank you for stopping by the Joggles Blog!
