DT Post – Amy Almeida’s Wonky Wood Houses
      September 23, 2016

      Photo 1

Good Morning, Amy here, and today I’m showing you one of the fun ways you can decorate Joggles Wonky Wood Houses using black gesso as our base and Finnabair Art Alchemy Acrylic Paints!

      Supply Photo

      Supplies used:

      Joggles Wonky Wood House #1

      Joggles Wonky Wood House #4

      Joggles Stencils- Punchinella Trio 1

      Joggles Masks- Mod Circles Mask

Joggles / Margaret Applin Designs Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp – Vintage Correspondence

Golden Modeling Paste (Substitute Liquitex Light Modeling Paste or Ranger Texture Paste)

      Dina Wakley Media Black Gesso

      Versamark Watermark Clear Ink Pad

Finnabair Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint – Light Patina, Emerald Green, Opal Magic Violet Gold, Opal Magic Pink Blue & Wild Fuschia

      Glue Gun

      Ranger Heat It Craft Tool

Other Supplies: Art Alchemy Platinum Crackle, Faber Castell Bead Glitter Gel, Liquitex Matte Gel, Prima Metal Embellishments, Wood Chips, Flat Paint Brush, Recollections Fine Detail White Embossing Powder, Beads, Paper Flowers, Wood Veneer Word Sentiments, Finnabair Silicone Palette Brush #2, Old Credit Card/Gift card for Modeling Paste.

      Here is my process:

      Photo 2

Apply an even coat of black gesso to both houses with a flat brush and let dry completely.

      Photo 3

Apply Platinum Crackle Paste through the Joggles Mod Circles Mask with an old credit or gift card to one side of the houses and let dry completely. I love watching the crackle effect take place! This will be the back side of the houses, lending a bit of shimmery texture.

      Photo 4

Apply Faber Castell Bead Glitter Gel to both sides of the of the roof tops and let dry completely – this gives some pretty texture and will dry clear.

      Photo 5

Apply a coat of black gesso to the wood veneer word sentiments (or any of the embellishments you want to use that don’t work with the color palette you are going for) and set aside to dry.

      Photo 6

Use the Joggles Punchinella Trio 1 stencil and apply modeling paste with a credit/gift card through the small dots to the other flat side of the house and let dry completely. This will be the front of our houses.

Now here is where the project starts coming together! Dry brush (by cleaning your loaded brush off onto paper towel before brushing onto your project) Finnabair Art Alchemy Acrylic Paints onto the front and sides of the houses and let dry.

HINT: These metallic paints will look different on black surfaces so be sure to test out the colors prior to using them on your project. I created swatches (see below) to help me know what the paints look like on different surfaces.

Embellish your houses as you wish. I used Prima Metal Mechanicals, wood veneer pieces, paper flowers, and beads, using Liquitex Matte Gel Medium and a hot glue gun to adhere my pieces to my houses. I then dry brushed the embellishments coated with black gesso in step 4 with the Finnabair Art Alchemy Acrylic Paints. I used Emerald Green on the large “Green” house and Wild Fuchsia on the small “Pink” house. This gave cohesion between my house bases and embellishments.

      Photo 9

Using Joggles/Margaret Applin Design “Vintage Correspondence” stamp with Versamark Ink and white fine detail embossing powder, emboss the sides of your houses and set it with your heat tool. This just adds some more fun texture to our pieces.

I sure hope I’ve inspired you to try your hand at some of the fun Wonky Wood Houses Joggles carries. These make cute gifts and there are so many different ways you can decorate them- paint, decoupage, textures…so many options!

Don’t forget to show us your mixed media makes over at the Joggles Art Adventure FB Group – we’d love to see what you create! Thank you for joining me today, and happy craftin’!

I love the wonky wood houses. The only limit is the imagination and I love your take on them! Warning: They are so addictive!
