DT Post – Karen Sessions’ Perfect Pearls Sympathy Cards
      September 9, 2016

      18 - Perfect Pearls Sympathy Cards - Karen Sessions - Sep 9

Hi everyone. It’s Karen here. For my DT project this month, I was allowed to pick out any products that I wanted to create with following any theme I wished. I selected a beautiful stencil with leaf flourishes exclusive to Joggles and some lovely floral cling stamps by Joggles designer Margaret Applin called Garden Party. I thought I would use a different medium this week so instead of inks, paints, or mists, I chose Perfect Pearls Pigment Powders. If you have not seen Perfect Pearls before, they have a glorious “mother of pearl” luminous sheen which is almost impossible to capture on film.

      Supply List:
Joggles / Margaret Applin Designs Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp – Garden Party #1 [56777]
Joggles / Margaret Applin Designs Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp – Garden Party #2 [56782]
Joggles / Margaret Applin Designs Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp Garden Party #3 [56791]
Joggles / Margaret Applin Designs Cling Mounted Rubber Stamp Garden Party #4 [56800]
      Joggles Clear Acrylic Stamp Mount – 4″ x 4″ [57681]
      Joggles Stencils – Branches [30-33714]
      Perfect Pearls – Turquoise
      Perfect Pearls  – Forever Green
      Perfect Pearls  – Forever Blue
      Perfect Pearls – Interference Blue
      Perfect Pearls  – Interference Red
      Perfect Pearls – Interference Green
      Inkssentials NonStick Craft Sheet
      Perfect Pearls Mists – Turquoise
      Inkssentials Mini Mister

Additional Supplies: Perfect Medium Ink Pad (Ranger) or Perfect Medium Pen (Brush tip), white & aqua blue card stock, Dew Drop Jewels (The Robin’ Nest), teal chalk (Inkadinkado), silver ink pad, ribbon, feather, sentiment, card base 6×6″.

      Directions:

Apply Perfect Medium Ink to the cling rubber stamp, Garden Party flower #1, and stamp onto white card stock.

Apply Perfect Pearls Powders generously over the stamped image. I used this combination: Forever Blue (45%), Turquoise (30%), Interference Blue (20%), Forever Green (5%).

Use a large dusting brush to blend the pigment powders and then remove the excess powder.

Next, lightly mist the image with water to set it and set aside to dry.

Protect the worktop by covering it with newspaper or a NonStick Craft Sheet. Tape the Joggles Branches Stencil to the worktop to keep it stationary. (TIP: Place two pieces of masking tape at the top of the stencil to serve as hinges so you can easily lift the stencil and insert card stock.)

      3 - Perfect Pearls Sympathy Cards - Karen Sessions - Sep 9

Slide white card stock (5.5″x6″) under the stencil and spritz with Turquoise Perfect Pearls Mist. Gently lift the stencil, remove the paper, and set it aside to dry. Repeat the same process with a piece of aqua blue cardstock (1″x6″).

Place the card base so the folded edge is at the top and attach the strip of aqua blue paper along the lower edge of the card base. When dry, tear one edge of the branches background paper and apply silver ink to the torn edge. Adhere the branches background paper to the card base and trim off any excess paper on the sides. Apply aqua blue chalk lightly around the edge of the card to frame it with a subtle haze.

Trim the Garden Party stamped image leaving a narrow white border. Carefully tear the left edge of the stamped image and gently apply silver ink to the torn edge. Tear the left edge of the aqua blue matting and again gently apply silver ink to the torn edge. Mat the Garden Party image with the inked aqua blue cardstock and adhere to the lower left.

Tie a faux bow with organza ribbon and adhere it vertically across the lower third of the card. Then adhere a feather under the right side of the stamped image and attach a sentiment to the upper right corner.  Finally, add the finishing touch by embellishing the lower left corner with a row of three Dew Drop jewels.

Here is another similarly constructed sympathy card designed with Garden Party Cling Stamps (#2, #3, #4), Joggles Branches Stencil, & Perfect Pearls Pigment Powders.

Directions & Supplies for Floral Trio Sympathy Card:
Stamp #2 – use Perfect Pearls  – Interference Red
Stamp #3- use Perfect Pearls – Interference Blue
Stamp #4- use Perfect Pearls – Interference Green

Most of the photos can’t really capture the intense metallic sheen Perfect Pearls will produce but I did manage to get a few nice gleaming photos of Perfect Pearls in action.

You will notice a dramatic difference in the colors depending on the lighting and angle at which you are viewing the card.

I hope you enjoyed my delicate pastel sympathy cards. I invite you to give Perfect Pearl Pigment Powders a try. They look especially beautiful when used with negative image stamps that have a lot of surface area for ink. The Garden Party cling rubber stamps by Joggles/Margaret Applin Designs are perfectly suited for this. If you love “mother of pearl”, then you’ll want to try this.

      Happy Crafting!

I love the Perfect Pearls pigment and have neglected using it in a very long time. Your guidance with these cards is very inspiring!
