The prompt for Week 21 was going to be “pick a color and have it be predominant on your page”.  Going in I knew I wanted mine to be green, which is how I started, but my muse decided that as wonderful as the various greens I used were, something was missing.  Turquoise.  The page needed something more than just the greens, so in came the turquoise.

The revised prompt: pick a color, or two, and have it or them be the dominant on the page.

I chose to use greens and turquoise for the background, to color the figures, to accent the doodles, and in the Sticky Snippets™ I used to build the frame around the page and the platform the characters are standing on.

Because I was working on half a spread and knew I was going to use ink sprays for the background, the first thing I did was mask off the page on the left.

My colors: Dylusions Fresh Lime, Color Wash Lettuce, and Tumbled Glass Distress Spray Stain.  Best of all?  White space!  I was determined to leave some and like that I actually managed to this week.

I mopped up the excess color and then added a spritz of Tumbled Glass Spray Stain because it had gotten too light.  So far… I’m liking it.

A couple of spritzes of plain water allowed me to ghost the dots and gain some much needed texture.  Spritz the water, allow it to sit on the page for about 30 to 45 seconds (resist the urge to play with it), then use paper towel to pick up the water.  Just lay the paper towel on the surface, press with your hands to help absorb the water, and then pick it up.  Don’t scrub or wipe up the water like you would if you were cleaning a surface by sweeping the paper towel across it.  Just press and lift.

I wanted more texture, this time with color, so I unscrewed the mister top/pickup tube combo from the bottles and shook the end at the page for drops of color.

This is the sheet of Sticky Snippets™ that I used.  It’s #57743, the Extra Long Rectangles.  You’ll see in a moment that I cut my strip in half, leaving pieces measuring 1/2″ x 8 1/4″.  I wanted skinnier strips for some of the border.

To build the platform I used more strips that I’d cut, changing sizes to keep the look interesting.

Finished.  The borders and platform are done.  Or so I think…

Upon further consideration… I liked them, but felt they needed some doodles.  I used a Extra Fine Black Sharpie Water Based Paint Pen for everything but the larger dots at the top.  I used the Medium version of the pen there.

This sheet of Sticky Snippets™ has areas not devoted to labels that can be cut or punched and used.  I wanted small dots for the background and used a 1/4″ Hole Punch to make them.

Placed them randomly on the background and used the a Superfine Black PITT Pen to make loose circles around them.

The background still felt as though it needed something, so I used the Superfine PITT Pen to make small circles.  They’re quite dense at the top of the page, but as you move downward, I put more space between them for a sparse look.

I wanted to use one of the Bloobel birds and SeeMore Good and knew the bird was going to be a lot shorter, so built an elevated perch for him.

I ended up using Potato Head along with SeeMore Good and think they make a great pair of friends.  If you look closely at the circles I drew with the PITT Pen you’ll see that they’re now turquoise colored inside.  I did that with an Green Metallic Gelly Roll Pen.  I know, I know… it’s a little confusing.  The color is turquoise and the name of the pen is named Green.

I also added additional Sticky Snippets™, cutting the Medium Circles roughly in half and applying three of them as a bit of a pedestal for SeeMore to stand on.  The black “friends” is from the Ideology Big Chat Sticker Assortment.
