Working with Tyvek®
- page 2
You will learn to control the
bubbling and shrinkage though the temperature of the iron, how long
you apply the heat, how hard you press the iron against the pressing
cloth, and by heating sections rather than the entire
piece. Figure 3 shows a rectangle before any heat was applied.

Figure 3
Figure 4 shows it after a brief
application of heat – just enough to cause the bubbling to begin.

Figure 4
Figure 5 demonstrates more
significant bubbling and shrinkage after another application of
heat.

Figure 5
In Figure 6 you can see that
enough heat has been applied to cause some disintegration of the
Tyvek.

Figure 6
Figure 7 shows considerable
shrinkage and disintegration. Most of the bubbles are gone and very
little of the pink color is left. It’s possible to keep the shape
of the original piece, or at least the suggestion of the shape which
opens many creative doors.

Figure 7
In Figures 8 and 9 you can see
the before and after look of triangular pieces of Tyvek. These
pieces also demonstrate that it’s possible to be imaginative with
the paint and by controlling the shrinkage still see some of the
original paint effects.
