!Introduction to Needlefelting with Amy Rawson     $45.00

This class is scheduled to begin on September 10, 2009.

Needle felting is a relatively young art form that is gaining popularity as more and more people discover it. It is, essentially, sculpting with wool. The technique is very different from traditional wet-felting methods and is easy to learn. Three-dimensional felted creations are not difficult to achieve and the possibilities are endless. Needle felted figures have a unique look and feel, and can be as simple or complex as you desire.

In this class, you'll learn the basics of needle felting on a simple project and then move on to more complex projects as you become familiar with the process. You'll complete three projects in total, over a period of four weeks. The class is open to students of all levels, though it is designed especially for beginners. It will have a spring-time theme and will be divided into sessions as follows:

Lesson 1 - Needle Felted Easter Eggs

Making easter eggs is a great way to learn the basics of needle felting. This session will include a description of and introduction to needle felting techniques, which you'll use to create a simple three-dimensional form out of wool fibers. The egg is a basic shape that is easy for beginners to work with. You'll learn how to apply assorted colors of dyed wool to the surface of your egg shape to create beautifully decorated easter eggs. Nestle one down in an easter basket as a special gift for someone.

Lesson 2 - Needle Felted Chick

This little chick is a slightly more complex figure than the easter eggs, but still fairly easy. You'll learn how to build up a figure by starting with simpler shapes (spheres, eggs, cones, etc.) and joining them together. The basic figure is then covered with colored wool and embellished. Once you've got the hang of it, you might find yourself making a whole flock of adorable little chicks.

Lesson 3 - Needle Felted Bunny part 1

Next you'll move on to a more involved creation, a felted bunny. The project will be divided into two sessions because it will involve more steps and require more time to complete. Part 1 will instruct you how to build the basic form for your bunny. Then you'll begin to cover the bunny with dyed wool to determine a basic body-coloring.

Lesson 4 - Needle Felted Bunny part 2

In this session, you'll finish off your bunny by learning how to complete the surface embellishment and refine the features of your figure. Special attention will be given to creating the face and adding smaller details that really bring out the personality of your bunny.

The supply list will be sent to all students one week before the class starts. Once you buy this class you will receive an email order confirmation, but you will not hear from us again until the supply list is sent.

A high speed connection to the internet is recommended for all students.
