This class scheduled to begin on August 13th, 2013
The paper bag book is such a popular and fun project and this one will knock you off your feet! This book is a treasure STUFFED with magic and surprises that begs to be explored. It’s perfect for a special gift for displaying lovingly on your coffee table so all your guests can “oooh” and “awww” over it. (I gave one of these books to my hubby as an amazing valentine and he LOVED it!)
In this fun and upbeat video based class we will be making secret hiding places and interactive pages with magnets, pockets, flaps, envelopes. We will also play with sweet smelling beeswax, distressing inks, rub-ons, walnut inks, collage, tags, fibers, and lots more!! This class has something for everyone, both beginner and advanced students. Many people have asked me about how I made these books, and it is my pleasure to finally share my secrets.
Week 1: We will assemble our books and start some background page work. We will start adding pockets and choose a theme for our books. Then I will also share my much sought-after recipe for staining tags that not only makes them look heavenly but smell heavenly too. The most fun part of this week will be the gathering process; finding products and magical treasures to add to our books! I’ve got a lot of great ideas to help you along the way.
Week 2: We will talk about how to tell a story with our pages and how to keep them cohesive as we further explore our pages and subject. We will use a variety of embellishments (brads, wire, twine, shells, feathers, leather, fabric, metal, found objects…anything you’ve got).
Week 3: This week you will learn how to make secret hiding places for notes or special small objects. We will also explore how to add simple closures and other interesting interactive elements such as magnets. And then the messy fun begins with paper distressing galore! We will be finishing our tags, using distress inks, and chalks. Watch your new-looking materials transform into well-worn and well-loved antiques with the magic of my favorite distressing methods.
Week 4: Beeswax and finishing touches! The possibilities are endless as we finish our covers and add fibers, wire, feathers, yarn, ribbon, bells, beads, and other fun treasures to our bindings. This week is also a great intro into the secrets of beeswax as a texture and sealant. Our books are sure to look and smell divine after this week!!!
