Whether you are a beginner who'll be working with paperclay for the first time, or someone who has used this wonderful product before, I think you'll enjoy my 4 lesson class for creating this whimsical rabbit, Gertie!
I am a self-taught artist, creating dolls and sculptures for almost 30 years now. I've learned mostly from trial and error (actually, lots of error!). But, in doing this, I've developed techniques over the years and I'll be sharing many of those with you. This class will take you through your rabbit making journey with detailed, step-by-step instructions and lots of clear photographs. From making the facial features, to attaching her jointed arms, I'll guide you through the process and will be available to answer any questions you have along the way. Because you can work at your own pace, there is no pressure to "keep up" with other students.
I just love using a combination of materials in my work, and this project is an example of that-(you can achieve so many different effects by using mixed media!) The basic body, head and ears are paperclay, while the arms are made from an oven-cured clay. The collar was assembled using these wonderfully unique paper leaves, and I've painted some of the German scrap borders and the dragonfly on the front of her dress in different shades of paint to coordinate. Her hat is sewn from fabric, and she holds a bouquet of pretty flowers in her arm. Standing about 10" tall, Gertie will be a treasure you will be proud to say you've created.
If you are someone who has always wanted to try their hand at paperclay, but have been intimidated by it, this project is the perfect chance to jump in. When Barbara asked me to do a sculpting class, I gave a lot of thought on what to create. I wanted something that would be easy enough for someone who has never done anything like this before, but yet, detailed enough for those who have. And, since rabbits are one of my favorites, I think Gertie was the perfect choice.
I'm looking forward to working with you!
