This class is scheduled to begin on November 18, 2009.

Using beautiful silk shibori ribbon, students will learn how to incorporate wire and create a sculptural neckpiece with a magnetic clasp. This technique can also be used to create a variety of jewelry pieces including bracelets and cuffs, in addition to unusual jewelry display pieces and sculpture. One new shibori flower design will also be taught that can be used both as the focal point of the necklace or as a broach all on its own. We will also explore designing and free form sculpting with wire and ribbon.

Incorporated into the three lessons will be a bit of philosophy and study into the science of "making" and how and why it can affect our brain chemistry lifting our mood and reducing stress. Several books, articles and studies on the connection between art making and improved mental health will be cited and open for discussion.

In order to participate in online classes at joggles you are expected to have basic computer and internet skills. You need to be able to browse the internet, know how to download and save a document to your PC's hard drive, and understand how to open and save email attachments. It is your responsibility to learn these skills before the class begins.
