Join me for light hearted and interesting class where you will learn to create a unique version of the Chinese “take out box”.

This box amazes me with its simplicity and ingenuity. It is an “x” that folds up and holds together at two points and the top interlocks. I will provide the pattern and instructions and you provide the originality and you will create your very own one of a kind Chinese Take out Box.

Take out Box
We will create sheets of “cotton/parchment”. This will be used to make the box. You will how to make cotton/parchment with a simple process that combines and bonds cotton fabric and certain types of paper together. The end result is a sturdy, unique surface that is very diverse. The inside of the box is lined with cotton fabric.

*Note: My technique was developed and is a modified version of Beryl Taylor’s technique: “fabric/paper”.

Theme: Food
The box will be embellished on the outside with fish shapes. The fish are also hand made with a second layering process I call “tulleing”. A variety of embellishments are combined and sandwiched between interfacing and tulle and then used as the source for shapes that are used as embellishments. Of course, you may also choose your own theme for the outside.

Contents: Objects d’art
We will make several items to go inside the box. Directions will be given for three items. You may opt to make any you choose. Items as: sushi, made from fabric or paper, more fish, and a tiny rice bowl and tiny chop sticks.

Finishing Touches
The box will be finished with a custom made handle of wire, beads, old costume jewelry and/or buttons.

All stitching is done by machine except for hand embellishments. You should be confident with free motion stitching and have a sewing machine that does zigzag.

This box makes a great gift. The paper/fabric is a versatile surface and has multiple applications; this is only one way to use it!

The supply list will be sent to all students one week before the class starts. Once you buy this class you will receive an email order confirmation, but you will not hear from us again until the supply list is sent.

A high speed connection to the internet is recommended for all students.

In order to participate in online classes at joggles you are expected to have basic computer and internet skills. You need to be able to browse the internet, know how to download and save a document to your PC's hard drive, and understand how to open and save email attachments. It is your responsibility to learn these skills before the class begins.

Please be certain you are comfortable with all of these skills. Class fees will not be refunded once the class has begun.
