The Kimono has become universally recognized silhouette in its simplicity, beauty and strong graphic quality. It’s a theme that allows continual exploration and experimentation within a consistent framework. You may choose to work with the kimono shape in this class, or select your own shape that has meaning for you. You’ll be selecting that shape during the first week with suggestions or feedback from Jane.
This is a mixed media class, working with paper, cloth, color, and focal point. We’ll spray, stamp, cut, glue, and sew.
During the 6 weeks, we’ll work on 3 artworks at the same time, each with a different background (paper, cloth and canvas). All 3 will have the same shape or image as a focal point, and use the mosaic technique to collage within the shape. Each artwork will be your unique creation, and through out the classes Jane will help you with color and composition. After 6 weeks, you’ll have learned and tried many new mixed media techniques and mixed paper and cloth into one artwork.
Lesson one: Learn new techniques by preparing collage papers by adding color and stamping. Select focal point shape to be used on your art series, and create a template Learn to design and cut your own original stamps (optional)
