This class is sponsored in partnership with The Dollmakers List which is an online community dedicated to dollmaking in all forms. http://www.dollmaking.org/
You will work with Aves Apoxie Sculpt - a two part ambient set epoxy putty – direct sculpt resin. It’s very different than polymer clay, being extremely strong and quite repairable. The clay cures by mixing parts A and B together. When mixed the clay has a one to four hour work window, so the work is done in stages. You will go through building an armature and base, and working with the material throughout its various cure stages.
Rebecca likes to stress that there are no mistakes, just possibilities. You can apply these lessons to whatever you want to make; posable pieces or fully sculpted pieces with or without fabric 'enhancements'. The piece you will be working on will be anywhere from 12” to 18” tall.
There will be several different sections of this class including:
Planning the sculpture from the base up - sketches are good for this
Building the armature and posing – contrapposto*
Bulking out the armature – adding basic clay and drawing out musculature
Applying the muscles to the body and legs
Hand armatures and beginning on hands
Creating the head and forming features – adding expression
Attaching all the parts
Carving in and sanding
Painting, fabric draping and finalizing the sculpture
Please know that you may make anything you like, letting your imagination be your guide. Rebecca will help you throughout the process at the class forums, creating a piece alongside you. She will have sketches available for the piece that she's creating and of other characters.
Rebecca looks forward to the opportunity to help other artists in this area and to see them grow with this material!
